Conceptual Metaphor In Vietnamese Political Discourse

At present,there are a lot of research results on political discourse metaphors in domestic academic circles,but the research on Vietnamese political discourse metaphors needs to be explored in depth.Based on the conceptual metaphor theory,this study uses the speeches and articles of Nguyen Phu Trong from 2011 to 2022 as the corpus and analyses their conceptual metaphors in order to interpret Vietnamese political discourse from the perspective of conceptual metaphors.The study finds that Nguyen Phu Trong’s choice of the origin domain of conceptual metaphors is experiential,pluralistic and subjective.The experience of interacting with oneself or the objective world provides a pluralistic empirical basis for the construction of conceptual metaphors in Nguyen Phu Trong’s political discourse,while Nguyen Phu Trong’s personal experience,personality traits and identity stance also influence his choice of metaphorical constructions.The study also analyses the mapping mechanisms of specific conceptual metaphors in Nguyen Phu Trong’s political discourse from the perspectives of structural metaphors,physical metaphors and spatial metaphors respectively,revealing the systematic mapping and partial construction of political concepts in his mapping process.In addition,the conceptual metaphors in Nguyen Phu Trong’s political discourse reflect the unique cultural characteristics and national thinking of the Vietnamese nation,which play an important role in Nguyen Phu Trong’s metaphorical cognitive thinking and profoundly influence the metaphorical choices of Nguyen Phu Trong in constructing political concepts.
