As the world’s most popular detective in the East, film adaptations based on the historical character Di Renjie emerge in an endless stream, forming a relatively rich adaptation text.In the 1980 s,China’s film and television industry moved towards marketization, resulting in a boom in entertainment film production. In 1986,the first film adapted by Di Renjie was released in China. At almost the same time,Taiyuan TV set about preparing "The Legend of Di Renjie’s Case"(1987 and 1999 editions),which caused a fever at that time, prompting it to spread from the local cultural business card to the whole country, desalinating the regional color, showing its universality and popularity.Since entering the new century, the series "Detective Di Renjie"(produced from 2004 to2010)has been popular on CCTV.It has been broadcast through local television stations to the mainstream media of CCTV,as well as the popularity of the network hot words "Yuanfang, what do you think".This image has been popularized by the whole people and has become one of the IP addresses that have received much attention. In the hands of Tsui Hark in 2010,the story of Di Renjie broke through the previous conceptual adaptation, creatively adding a large number of new characters and plots, and producing them in the form of fantasy blockbusters, thereby demonstrating a new understanding of classic characters and stories in the context of the new era, attracting a lot of attention and attracting a wave of adaptation fever. At the same time, the online movies broadcast in the form of Internet plus movies have paid attention to this phenomenon.Since 2018,many online movies of Di Renjie have been released every year. The text as a whole shows the characteristics of diversity and richness, realizing the diversification of narrative content. So far,Di Renjie has become one of the most concerned IP.From the loyal ministers and celebrities in the historical books to the well-known Chinese detective,Di Renjie’s story has been improved and enriched in the process of continuous adaptation, showing the changes of adaptation strategies and the superposition of cultural significance in different adaptation contexts. This paper takes Di Renjie’s film adaptation as the research object, and makes a comprehensive investigation of the film adaptation of Di Renjie’s story by means of text analysis and comprehensive comparison. While sorting out the overall context of its adaptation,we should study and analyze the characteristics of the adaptation versions in different periods, and further explore the value connotation and aesthetic significance of the works from the perspective of adaptation. The paper is divided into four parts. The first chapter is the discussion of the reasons for the adaptation. It analyzes and summarizes the reasons for the constant selection and adaptation of Di Renjie’s story from the perspectives of the theme content and market selection. The second chapter makes a diachronic overall survey of Di Renjie’s film adaptation works, and analyzes the characteristics and differences of adaptation versions in different periods. The third chapter, from the perspective of artistic form transformation, analyzes and summarizes the adaptation strategy of Di Renjie’s story from this text to the film by comparing the original text of the story with the film text,as well as the similarities and differences between the film texts. The fourth chapter,on the premise of synthesizing the first three chapters, attempts to summarize the reasons and characteristics of the changes made by Di Renjie in the adaptation of films in different cultural contexts, different media and different creators. The conclusion part briefly summarizes the positive and negative effects brought by its adaptation in order to provide some reference for the film adaptation of classic texts.
