Time,space and light have been important research topics in philosophy,art and natural science since ancient times and have continued to this day.The study of space-time and light directly comes from two different ways in which we describe the objective world: physics and art.In the 20 th century,the scientific and artistic circles respectively produced creative works that subverted the traditional concept of time and space —— Special Theory of Relativity and The Girl of Avignon,both of which were the products of rethinking the objective world.The academic research on the relationship between the special theory of relativity and Picasso’s painting art shows their similarities in a simple way,and both of them have innovated the old concepts in their respective fields,but they have not fundamentally studied how the special theory of relativity and Picasso’s painting art have reshaped the cognitive concept of natural reality in the fields of physics and art.The purpose of this paper is to cross-study the special theory of relativity and Picasso’s painting art by using the methods of literature research,interdisciplinary research,iconology research,comparative analysis and case analysis,to study the convergence of time,space and light between them in conceptual thinking,to study Picasso’s painting art from a brand-new perspective,and to deeply explore the cultural implications presented in Picasso’s painting art.The main research content of this paper is divided into the following parts: in order to study Picasso’s painting art from the perspective of special relativity,the article first needs to establish the relationship between special relativity and Picasso’s painting art.Therefore,this paper first discusses the criticism of classical mechanics and the reconstruction of realism by special relativity,and analyzes the evolution process of classical mechanics to special relativity,respectively analyzes the realism corresponding to classical mechanics system and special relativity,and studies their corresponding manifestations in the art field;This paper studies the encounter between special relativity and Picasso’s thoughts,laying a good foundation for the study of Picasso’s painting art under special relativity.Based on this,the author analyzes Picasso’s painting art in cubism period from the perspective of relative space-time view of special relativity,explores the visual picture presented by relative space-time view,and analyzes the artistic expression of Picasso’s painting works in cubism period,aiming at studying the essential similarities between relative space-time view and Picasso’s artistic expression in cubism period,and reading Picasso’s painting works in cubism period from the perspective of special relativity,so as to study the artistic expression of Picasso’s painting works in cubism period.Secondly,the author analyzes the color expression of Picasso’s paintings in the surreal period from the perspective of relativistic Doppler effect under special relativity,aiming at studying the situation that the speed of light propagation in relativistic Doppler effect is close to or equal to the speed of light,and the changing law of its frequency(and wavelength)in the relative movement with the observer,exploring the visual picture presented by Doppler effect under special relativity,analyzing the color expression of Picasso’s paintings in the surreal period,and studying the similarities between the visual image presented under this law and Picasso’s color expression in surreal paintings.In the third and fourth chapters,respectively,the research on the convergence of the space-time view of special relativity and relativistic Doppler effect with Picasso’s cubism and surrealism painting art in space-time and color expression dimensions constitutes the core of this paper.The essential similarities between special relativity and Picasso’s painting art are revealed in these two chapters,and at the same time,this part of the research is "standing on the shoulders of giants",which is based on the comparative research results of physics and artistic expression of predecessors.Finally,the author thinks deeply about the cultural meaning of Picasso’s painting art,and summarizes that Picasso’s works have changed the way western classical art sees the world on the phenomenon level,which is essentially the recognition of self-subject.Then,from the shallow to the deep,combined with the cultural background of Picasso’s time,it reveals the scientific spirit reflected in Picasso’s artistic "experiment" and Picasso’s deep social ideal,and embodies Picasso’s tireless creative spirit and bold ambition to change.Finally,it analyzes the profound realism in Picasso’s works of art from a humanistic perspective,and reproduces the truth of the form to some extent.
