| Yangcheng drum songs is a folk art popular in Yangcheng and the surrounding counties, sung in the Yangcheng dialect, with great local characteristics and loved by the local people. In the study of folk music, apart from paying attention to the music itself,it is also necessary to look at the folk artists, who are the creators and preservers of the folk art,and who know the past and present life of the art, which is of great value to the inheritance and development of the art. There are currently around 40 Yangcheng drum songs aitists active in the market, who learned the art the hard way from their masters when they were young, and have gone through four stages: learning from their masters, studying, becoming masters and performing, and have honed their skills in the rich experience of performing. In order for a local folk art to develop,it must always rely on the local human environment. The development of the Yangcheng drum songs to this day is closely related to the folk culture valued by the local people. In the face of the changing social environment, the artists have explored a new path of development through "small folk art troupes",relying on the drumming skills they have acquired over the years. This paper focuses on Yangcheng drum songs artists, combining a number of field studies with a selection of typical artists as case studies, and focuses on the real feelings and thoughts of female artists from a feminist perspective. At the same time, based on the fieldwork,it examines the contemporary construction of the artistes’ dual identities as pure drum songs artists and folk art troupe performers, and by comparing them with the Zhangzi drum songs,it interprets the current situation of the Yangcheng drum songs artists and makes suggestions for their preservation and transmission. This essay consists of three parts: the introduction, the body and the conclusion. The first part is the introductory section, which mainly covers the background and significance of the chosen topic, the dynamics of domestic research, the content and methodology of the study and the innovations. The first chapter analyses the environment in which the Yangcheng drum songs was produced, its development history, and a brief introduction to the experiences of the artists, based on both the physical and human environments. The second chapter, based on fieldwork, selects a typical artist,Xuebing Tian,as a case study, and analyses the relationship between his works in terms of singing, canting and cadences,as well as giving a basic introduction to the Heart to Heart Art Troupe founded by Xuebing Tian. The third chapter examines the group of female artists in Yangcheng drum songs from the perspective of feminology, and experiences the inner thoughts of female artists in a specific historical context.Based on fieldwork and numerous interviews,Chapter Four interprets the contemporary artists’ dual identities as drum songs artists and art troupe performers, and the implications of the characteristics of this dual identity.Chapter five analyses the current development dilemmas of the Yangcheng drum songs artists by comparing them with the Zhangzi drum songs, and makes reasonable suggestions for its preservation and transmission. The third part is the conclusion section. |
