Nelson Goodman is one of the most representative American pragmatist philosophers of the post-World War II era,and has had a significant impact on a number of philosophical fields,including logic,philosophy of science,philosophy of language and philosophy of art.He is now widely recognised as one of the leading figures of the ’new pragmatism’.The study of his views and his methodology will help us to identify and establish the basic patterns,perspectives and characteristics of ’neo-pragmatism’.Generally speaking,Goodman’s academic career was accompanied by a revival of pragmatism,and his philosophical thinking was inevitably permeated and influenced by the spirit of pragmatism,which led to the formation of his neo-pragmatist methodology.This article firstly focuses on the origins of Goodman’s neo-pragmatist methodology-Peirce,Morris and others-and then provides a clear analysis of the core contents and features of Goodman’s neo-pragmatist approach,namely the features of epistemic isomorphism,the dual orientation of knowledge and practice,retrospective construction and tendencies such as pluralism and relativism,and finally The significance of the methodological approach in the history of ideas is discussed.In addition,while praising the subtleties of Goodman’s neo-pragmatist methodology,the author also offers his own critique of the shortcomings of Goodman’s non-positivism. |
