Wang Bi’s Interpretation And Systematic Construction Of The Metaphysical Words In Laozi

"Metaphysical Words" is the paradox in Laozi’s language,and includes the paradoxes expressed implicitly by using various language figures of speech such as simile,metaphor,analogy and symbol.Its text is simple and more suggestive,leaving a huge space for interpretation."Metaphysical Words" can be roughly divided into three categories,one is suggestive metaphors and other rhetoric;Second,the pursuit of positive value leads to negative value;Third,the negative opposite of the "inaction" policy to achieve positive value.Firstly,Wang Bi decoded the similes,metaphors,comparisons and symbols used in Laozi,and classified the underlying logic of the use of all figurative images as the "nothingness" of the existents in line with "Tao" relative to other existents: "no existence" and "no behavior";"Non-existence" does not hinder the development of other beings,and "non-behavior" does not disturb the development and order of other beings.Other beings themselves can realize their natural nature,other beings together constitute a harmonious order;The Tao,or being in harmony with the Tao,thus acquiesce to the status of all things and can preserve itself.As for the metaphysical theory leading to negative value,Wang Bi demonstrated the root cause of negative value brought by "existents" and "acting" in both conceptual and practical levels.That is to say,the concept of finiteness must produce exclusion and conflict with the concept of finiteness of other concepts.However,in reality,the root cause of the inevitable failure of "acting" rulers lies in the harm to the natural nature of the common people,thus causing the evil and false of the people and deepening the chaos of the society.From this,we can get the specific meaning of "Wuwei",which is the ruler’s behavior of extending his limitation to the whole society.The metaphysics that guide positive value are also constructed in the same form."Nothing" takes the inclusion of all finiteness as the "Tao" of "that-by-which",while "nothing" realizes positive value by maintaining the natural state of all things without hindering.Wang Bi’s "inaction" and "nature" are not reflective philosophy to avoid the harm caused by "activeness",but a constructive philosophy in which "inaction" is sufficient to realize "nature" and various positive values attached to it.
