In the history of Chinese and foreign fine arts, there are many artists who have painted oil paintings on the theme of "mother and son",and they have created many excellent works. However, the expression of mother’s love varies from time to time and from person to person. The choice of this subject for exploration and research is based on my own emotional experience, including being a father for the first time before I enrolled in postgraduate studies, observing the interaction between mother and son from a father’s perspective and constantly understanding the affection between mother and son;it also included my love for my mother and my mother’s longing for my deceased grandmother. These feelings have become the source of inspiration for me to create the theme of’Mother and Child’,and I hope to express them through the medium of oil painting, thus deepening my understanding of this chosen subject. In this paper,The first part analyzes the paintings of "mother and child" in Chinese and Western art history in terms of schema composition.A young mother starts with the conception of her child, raises her child to adulthood, and over time becomes an older mother herself;in these stages of life, mother and child are represented in different images and present different image schema.Secondly,In my analysis of the colour representation,I chose the works of the painters Cassatt and Yu Hong, who had influenced my own creation,as examples to analyse and summarize the characteristics of their colour expression in the painting of this subject, and to learn from them in my subsequent creation.Thirdly,I summarize the scenery in the picture, which, although secondary, plays an important role in the expression of the characters. Finally, through a comparative analysis of the painting language of the subject of "Mother and Child" in different contexts,it is further explained that the state of mind of the art creator is related to the context formed in a particular era,to the changes in art and to the environment in which the artist lives. The second part is to further recognize, understand and explore the application of a painting language consistent with my own through a series of exploration, research and study of previous artists and combined with my own oil painting practice process, and to accumulate experience for myself to continue to create works expressing human emotional themes afterwards. |
