| The late Qing and early Republican political forms were turbulent,with multiple forces pulling atop the country,warlords dividing the country,and constant strife.Zhang Zongxiang did not follow the waves of change in the calligraphic world,but offered reasonable criticism of the calligraphic phenomenon of the time and made a new elaboration of calligraphic theory.This paper focuses on four aspects of Zhang Zongxiang’s family,friendships,calligraphic practice,and calligraphic thought.The first chapter of this paper is about Zhang Zongxiang’s family background and main artistic contacts.In his family,Zhang Zongxiang’s maternal uncle and maternal grandfather had an inevitable influence on him.Zhang Zongxiang was widely traveled throughout his life,but due to his family’s decline and his father’s early death,the young Zhang Zongxiang was burdened with the burden of life.In his teens,he went out to teach and take on students.His life moved around Kipsh,Hangzhou,Beijing and other places;experienced the "papaya incident","revision of the four books of Wenlange","reconstruction of the Xiling Yin society" and other events;met Lu Xun,Shan Bu’an,Fang Jiekan and so on,The second chapter introduces his main calligraphic styles.The second chapter is an introduction to his main calligraphic styles.The author classifies Zhang Zongxiang’s main calligraphic styles into two categories:"copy calligraphy" and "ruled calligraphy".Of course,there are more than two styles of calligraphy,so I will only discuss the two main ones here.Zhang Zongxiang’s calligraphy is a topic that cannot be skipped by Zhang Zongxiang researchers.In the third chapter of this paper,I first analyze the causes of Zhang Zongxiang’s calligraphic thought from three perspectives:"the continuation of the essence of calligraphic tradition," "anti-mainstream aesthetics," and "the calligrapher’s personal perception of calligraphy.Second,the author discusses Zhang Zongxiang’s calligraphic ideology in three specific aspects:"strength of the brush,""avoidance of vulgarity," and "fullness of qi.Zhang Zongxiang’s achievements in calligraphy are not only high,but also in other aspects of calligraphy.He also left behind a wealth of calligraphic experience for future generations.Chapter 4 discusses Zhang Zongxiang’s achievements in calligraphy and the calligraphic lessons he brought to the author in the context of his works.Zhang Zongxiang was a man with a rich knowledge of Chinese studies and a wide range of artistic interests,and he was very keen in drawing on ancient culture and exploring modern culture.His work builds on the traditions of the Tang and Jin periods and was further developed during the Song and Ming periods."We will sort out Zhang’s legacy of ink and analyze it in correspondence with his calligraphy theory,which is conducive to better copying and creation of monuments and posters in practice. |
