At present, the development and research of youth films in China have been centered around three perspectives: film narrative, image style, and market structure. The content and theme of films have also gone through a situation of diversification from multiple scopes and perspectives to a single perspective. My graduation work "North and South" is a youth film that focuses on the growth and reflection of adolescent youth standing at the crossroads of life in different environments. The paper focuses on the drama and audio-visual language design in youth films, taking the growth of characters, family environment, character relationships, lines, scenes, colors, and composition in "North and South" as examples, combining case analysis with overall research to deeply analyze the metaphorical role and significance in youth film dramas and audio-visual language art. This article first systematically reviews the current research status of domestic youth films, and explains the reasons, significance, innovation points, and actual creative process of the topic creation.Secondly, from the perspective of originality, the role of metaphorical settings in youth films is summarized in four points: firstly,it promotes the narrative of the film;Secondly, emphasizing and deepening the theme; The third is to enrich the characters’ spiritual monologues and showcase their delicate emotional changes; The fourth is the implication of the era background and social contradictions. Finally,it is summarized that how to set metaphors in the creation of youth films, break through the current problems of typification and patterning of youth films, and open up new perspectives and themes in theoretical research, allowing domestic youth films to burst into more dynamic and practical educational youth films.
