In recent years,the continuous promotion of the new English reform and the proposition of the core English competencies have put forward higher requirements for the teachers’ English teaching in senior high school.Nevertheless,it is worth noting that,currently,the situation of English grammar teaching and learning in senior high schools is not ideal,especially for the non-finite verbs grammar.As a widely recognized key and difficult point in grammar teaching of senior high school and the National College Entrance Examination,the wide application,complicated forms and varied functions of the nonfinite verbs grammar make its learning extremely challenging and perplexing for the students.And most teachers still adopt the traditional Grammar Translation Method,whose grammar teaching mode,“explanation+practice”,is simple and inefficient,which leads to the students’ low interest in grammar learning,their scattered and fragmented grasp of nonfinite verbs grammar knowledge,as well as their weak ability to apply the grammar.Mind Map is a simple but effective thinking tool that focuses on graphics and text,which can construct the grammar knowledge system for the learners and train their ability to explore and divergent thinking through hierarchical structure chart,improving their grammar learning and application ability simultaneously.Hence,it is an ideal learning tool to help the students learn grammar efficiently indeed.Therefore,based on the Brain Science Theory,the Constructivism Learning Theory and the Knowledge Visualization Theory,this study applies Mind Map to the teaching and learning of the non-finite verbs grammar in senior high school,aiming to verify its positive effectiveness on stimulating the students’ interest as well as improving their scores and comprehensive application ability in learning non-finite verbs grammar,so as to provide feasible and effective teaching methods and suggestions for the non-finite verbs teaching in senior high school.Specific research questions are as follows:(1)How can the teachers optimize the teaching and learning of non-finite verbs grammar in senior high school by guiding students to design corresponding Mind Maps?(2)What effect does the application of Mind Map have on the students’ attitude and interest in learning the non-finite verbs grammar?(3)What effect does the application of Mind Map have on the students’ scores and their comprehensive application ability of non-finite verbs grammar?This study adopted experimental method,questionnaire survey method,interview survey method,selecting 100 students from two classes of senior one in S middle school in Nankang District of Ganzhou as the research subjects to carry out a 14-week teaching experiment.During the experiment,the EC adopted Mind Map to assist the teaching of the non-finite verbs,while the CC used the conventional induction and deduction method.After the experiment,the SPSS 23.0 software was employed to analyze and process the data collected,and the following conclusions were obtained: firstly,the teachers can optimize the teaching and learning of non-finite verbs grammar in senior high school by guiding students to design corresponding Mind Maps based on the following six procedures:scene creating and lead-in;brainstorming the relevant knowledge;Mind Map designing;presenting,comparing and evaluating of Mind Maps;practicing and extending,summary and assignment;secondly,Mind Map assisted the non-finite verbs teaching in senior high school can help the students elevate their learning enthusiasm and concentration,as well as stimulate their interest in exploring the non-finite verbs grammar independently;thirdly,Mind Map assisted the non-finite verbs teaching in senior high school can help the students memorize the important and difficult points of non-finite verbs,improve their non-finite verbs grammar scores and promote their comprehensive application ability.Based on the findings above,the author puts forward the following recommendations on the non-finite verbs teaching in senior high school: Teachers should take core English competencies as the guidance with students being the focus in class,conduct hierarchical teaching of the non-finite verbs grammar assisted by the Mind Map and design different levels of teaching activities based on the specific six procedures mentioned above,so as to mobilize the students’ learning enthusiasm,cultivate their ability of independent inquiry and innovation,boost their thinking quality and improve their non-finite verbs grammar learning and comprehensive application ability.
