A Study Of The Cognitive Mechanisms Of The Formation Process Of The Chinese Construction "X+Gan"

As the result of categorization of the real world by using language,construction has always been the focus of academic attention.The Chinese construction “X+Gan(感)” of the component Gan(感)is a perception word.It is closely related to cognitive linguistics.In previous studies,domestic scholars paid more attention to the syntactic feature.However,it lacks of studies on the cognitive mechanisms in the formation process of the Chinese construction “X+Gan(感)”.This thesis takes the Chinese construction “X+Gan(感)” as the research data.Based on the Center Chinese Linguistics PKU corpus,this thesis combines qualitative and quantitative methods to investigate the process of the semantic dynamic change and the formation and evolution of cognitive mechanisms from the knowledge-based view,usage-based view and interaction-based view of construction grammar.This thesis mainly discusses the following questions:(1)what is the knowledge network system of the Chinese construction “X+Gan(感)”?(2)what are the construction features of the Chinese construction “X+Gan(感)”?(3)how are the cognitive mechanisms in the formation process of the Chinese construction “X+Gan(感)”?The findings include: from the knowledge-based view of construction grammar,this thesis summarizes the semantic,phonetic,syllabic length and other diachronic evolution characteristics of the component Gan(感).In terms of semantics,the original meaning of the component Gan(感)is “one’s heart is touched”.The extension of meaning takes the original meaning as the prototype category to expand.In terms of the parts of speech,the component Gan(感)is mainly used as a verb,but the Chinese construction “X+Gan(感)” is mainly used as a noun.In terms of pronunciation,the component Gan(感)can be pronounced as “gǎn” or “hàn”.When pronounced as “hàn”,it is mostly an interchangeability character.It is common in ancient Chinese,but not in the Chinese construction “X+Gan(感)”.In terms of syllable,the component Gan(感)changes from monosyllabic words to disyllabic words.However,the Chinese construction “X+Gan(感)” changes from disyllabic words to trisyllabic words or polysyllabic words.In addition,the formation process of the Chinese construction “X+Gan(感)” can be clarified.It takes shape in the Han Dynasty,fully forms in the Six Dynasties,and develops rapidly in the Republic of China.On this basis,this thesis builds the knowledge network system of the component Gan(感)and the Chinese construction “X+Gan(感)”.From the usage-based view of construction grammar,this thesis analyzes the syntactic features,semantic types and pragmatic values of the Chinese construction“X+Gan(感)”.It is mainly modifier-head structure.It is a adverbial-verb structure when the component X is an adjective.It is a parallel structure when the component X is a verb.In addition,due to the different collocation ways,it can also be passive,joint,and negative structure.The semantic types are that feeling related to body parts or senses,mental states,and social norms or morality.Pragmatic values conform the economic principle of language transmission,meet the cognitive value of conformity psychology,and highlight text focus information.From the interaction-based view of construction grammar,this thesis analyzes the cognitive mechanisms in the formation process of the Chinese construction“X+Gan(感)”.There have different kinds and levels of interaction.With the help of the form and meaning,this thesis clarifies the semantic evolution path of the Chinese construction “X+Gan(感)”.With the help of structure interaction,the Chinese construction “X+Gan(感)” makes use of the double interaction mechanisms of lexical coercion and construction coercion to expand and improve its construction meaning.With the help of interface interaction,the Chinese construction “X+Gan(感)” makes use of phonological,semantic and syllabic interactions mechanisms to stabilize its construction meaning.With the help of domain interaction,the Chinese construction“X+Gan(感)” makes use of culture and so on to spread widely the construction.
