On Zhang Chao’s Piano Composition 《My Motherland》

The piano work My Motherland is a piano work of the same name created by composer Zhang Chao using the interlude from the movie Shangganling as the creative material.The reason for the research is that the author and supervisor selected the graduation concert repertoire,and when discussing about Chinese piano works,they developed a strong interest in Mr.Zhang Chao’s piano adaptation My Motherland.This work has a beautiful melody,rich texture,and difficult playing techniques.The strong emotions contained in his works aroused my patriotism and aroused my desire to play and study.Composer Zhang Chao combined his superb composition skills and the essence of national music,using the piano as an instrument,to bring new effects and vitality to this well-known work.It not only possesses the characteristics of its own ethnic music,but also embodies the cultural spirit of the times.The research work of this thesis is divided into five parts.The first part elaborates on the origin,significance,methods,and current research status of the study of this work;The second part introduces the creative background and basic content of Zhang Chao’s adapted work My Motherland.The third part analyzes the structure and tonal characteristics of the piano work My Motherland;The fourth part discusses the application of performance techniques and the mastery of timbre from the perspective of performance.The fifth part explores the artistic style of Mr.Zhang Chao’s work My Motherland from the perspective of its historical significance,aesthetic value,and teaching significance.Mr.Zhang Chao successfully integrated music with ethnic characteristics into his works,through the fusion of traditional and Western modes,using innovative techniques such as complex and varied rhythms,beautiful melodic lines,and harmony effects with ethnic and Western characteristics,expressing a deep emotional attachment to his motherland.
