| "New-romanticism" usually refers to a musical style related a return to emotional expression during the traditional romanticism period.The French translator Boris de Schloezer first applied this concept in 1923,attempting to compare it with Arnold Schoenberg’s expressionism and Igor Stravinsky’s neoclassicism.In the 1940 s,French composers such as Jean-Claude Borelly called this musical style that highlights emotional expression as new-romanticism,thus implying a "break" with atonal music.New-romanticism is characterized by returning to tradition to a certain extent,which is reflected in the aspects of tonality,structure,rhythm,beat,texture,etc.,emphasizing the melody and emotional expression of music,and integrating innovative techniques of the modern music in 20 th century.Stephen Albert,one of the representatives of the new romanticism,has a creative philosophy of combining tradition with modernity to regain the melodic nature of music.His representative works are "Manioc Pudding","The Song of Winter",and "River Run"."River Run" is the outstanding masterpiece with the style of new romantic music.In this paper,taking Albert’s "River Run" as the study object,the research was carried out from the perspective of composition technology,including six chapters.The first chapter is about Albert and his music creation;the second chapter is about pitch organization and tonality;the third chapter is about the musical structure of organic expansion principle;the fourth chapter is about rhythm and beat;the fifth chapter is about orchestration and texture;the six chapter is about the creative features of "River Run".The composer’s life,music structure,pitch organization,rhythm,beat,orchestration,texture,and other aspects were analyzed and studied to reveal the style characteristic of new romantic music and explore the music content and emotions expressed by Albert in depth. |
