| The development of Western modern art from the 19 th to the 20 th centuries was remarkable, and its rich practice influenced all corners of the world and revolutionized the related art fields. In the process of development, different schools of thought put forward their ideas and concepts and formed groups of practice. These genres interacted with each other in an intricate way, producing artistic practices in various directions under the clues of time and place.Spatio-temporal visualization is an exploration of a way to effectively represent this intricate relationship of influences in Western modern art genres. The purpose of this study is firstly to establish a scientific and objective logic and method for visualizing and sorting out Western modern art schools in time and space, and secondly to explore the development and evolution of Western modern art schools by sorting out statistics. The third is to bring out the neglected historical details in the development and evolution of Western modern art genres through a scientific and objective combing method. The significance of this study is firstly,to provide a basic research material for subsequent researchers, and secondly,to provide a comprehensive and holistic way of presenting the history of Western modern art through the construction of this spatio-temporal visualization method. Moreover, the historical details after the comprehensive and holistic combing are also a supplement to the existing history of Western modern art.The research framework for the spatial and temporal visualization of Western modern art genres consists of four research processes, namely data collection, chart production, sorting and interpretation, and research summary. The three elements of the development process of Western modern art: genres, artists’ biographical works, and artists’ active regions, are sequentially conducted according to the four research processes to form the research results. The thesis is divided into three parts: the first part is the introduction, which defines the spatial and temporal scope of Western modern art, establishes the research framework and research methods, and provides an overview of the current research status of Western modern art history at home and abroad. The second part is the main body of the study, which is carried out separately by four research processes. Finally, the research is summarized according to the interpretation of the phenomenon, forming four research conclusions: the characteristics of the era of Western modern art history, the innovation point of art development, the neglected art crossing, and the connection of regional art traditions. The third part is the summary, which takes the three elements of the development process of Western modern art: genres, artists’ biographies and works, and artists’ active regions as the basis for classification, and elaborates the research process and the corresponding graphical interpretation and research summary respectively. The innovation of the study on the visualization of Western modern art genres in time and space is firstly, the synthesis of two clues, time and space, linking the various Western modern art genres together in terms of temporal development and geographical connection, and secondly, the establishment of a scientific research framework to sort out the three elements in the development of Western modern art by four research processes: data collection, chart production, combing and interpreting, and research summary.Ultimately, through this thesis research,we aim to provide a contemporary research path and holistic research ideas for the study of Western modern art history,as well as to make a holistic observation of Western modern art. |
