Abstract/Summary:
Tchaikovsky’s piano suite "The Four Seasons" is one of the most famous piano works with Russian folk music elements and national characteristics in the Romanticism period. It was born in the period of the emergence and development of Russian realism, and is a typical musical work reflecting Russian realism at that time, combining realism and romanticism. The Four Seasons, subtitled "Twelve Characteristic Pieces",divides the twelve months of the year into twelve piano pieces, which in twelve movements show the natural landscape and national characteristics of Russia in great detail with musical depictions. The piano suite "The Four Seasons" is undoubtedly one of the most outstanding works of Tchaikovsky’s piano music, flagrantly expressing the musical style of the Russian national music school. This research will conduct a comprehensive study of Tchaikovsky’s piano work "The Four Seasons",taking twelve movements as the framework of the study, analyzing and interpreting each piece for its different compositional techniques and stylistic characteristics, and analyzing and exploring the work through two levels: composition characteristics and performance study. The cross-study is carried out by integrating Russian humanistic thought, philosophy and aesthetics, and national culture,in order to form a more complete research result on Tchaikovsky’s piano suite "The Four Seasons" and to promote the teaching and theoretical research of this work.
