Abstract/Summary:
Since 2000,the logic of film creation by young directors has profoundly reflected the trend of social development in contemporary China,and became an important topic in the context of globalization and postmodern society.Han Yan is the new director of “post-80s” generation in China.His creating background is in the context of global expansion of post-modern consuming culture,the rapid development of Internet and modern technology,the connotation of youth discourse,the increasing prosperity of Chinese film industry and the emergence of a new form of national film aesthetics.In an international perspective,Han Yan uses cross-text creation and cross-media narrative methods to create the young state narrative aesthetics integrated with online games.With the audio-visual design concept of two-dimensions,Han Yan reflects the aesthetic taste of contemporary Chinese youth and the new characteristics of network culture,which highlighting the humanistic spirit.Taking Han Yan’s film as the research object,the nine feature films of Han Yan is the researching text.This thesis constructing a theoretical research framework covering globalization,postmodernism,consuming culture,emotional structure,disease narrative,life aesthetics,youth subculture,author films.The technical ways of this thesis is to analyze Chinese literary and artistic policies and cultural strategies since 2000,presents the creating trend of Han Yan’s films,and summarizes his three creative dimensions contains works theme,characters representation,audio-visual aesthetic style.This thesis summarizes the characteristics,creating style and significance of Han Yan’s films,and reveals the inspiration for the creation of future youth films.Chapter 1 is the general analysis about themes of Han Yan’s films: present the living situation of urban youth and their native families in the context of consumerism;highlight the value of youth in emotion;discuss bioethics and life values in disease narratives.Namely,Han Yan focuses on social reality and shows humanistic care in the expression of the living state,emotional appeal and the value of life.Chapter 2 is the analysis of the characters in Han Yan’s films,including young people and middle-aged parents.The images of young people contain the growth-type youth with inspirational and redeemable spirit,the conflict-type youth with decadence and predicament,and the lost-type youth with rebellion and destruction syndrome.The images of middle-aged parents are mainly expressed as being in midlife crisis,suffering from the pain of losing the only child,and going to self-healing in the predicament.The positive young people,troubled young people,negative young people reflect Han Yan’s presentation on the portraits of contemporary youth.Also,the portrayal of current situation of middle-aged people in contemporary society also embodies the social problems such as empty-nest elderly,social discrimination,economic crisis,mental trauma and so on.Chapter 3 is the audio-visual style of Han Yan’s films.The designing of audio-visual has a unique aesthetic style.For instance,the visual modeling vividly depicts the urban life landscape and survival image of the contemporary youth,and the desires of the spiritual world of youth,creating a narrative aesthetics integrating film with online games.Music in Han Yan’s films reflects the subtly way about the young generation’s cultural character and value concept which affected by the global popular discourse.Han Yan uses montage editing theory to establish a mirror-image structure combining virtuality and reality to form a space-time correspondence of the external living situation of young people and the inner life imagination.Han Yan stitched youth culture,Internet thinking and popular elements into the image language,sought a breakthrough in the harmonious interaction of young people’s aesthetic appreciation,commercial appeal and genre expansion,as well as author’s ideas.The conclusion summarizes the creating experience of Han Yan’s films and presents the creative inspiration of this research for young filmmakers.
