Abstract/Summary:
The prose of Ouyang Xiu and Su Shi represents the Song generation’s interest in prose composition.During this period,Song prose gradually developed in the direction of individuality and life,as seen in the prose of Su Shi.Su Shi’s prose is divided by his relegation, and his works show different contents and styles of writing. Before his relegation,Su Shi was a Confucian scholar, while after his relegation,Su Shi was a Confucianist. The prose written by Su Shi during the Huizhou period is of high research value. The prose written during this period is fundamentally different from that written during the Huangzhou period, which was a period of pretence but inner entanglement. The Huizhou period is not only an intermediate stage in the creation of the prose of Su Shi,but it also serves as a bridge between the Huangzhou prose and the Danzhou prose. The study of Su Shi’s Huizhou prose is therefore an important thesis to complete the study of Su Shi’s prose in his relegation. The text is divided into four chapters in general. The first chapter is a study of Su Shi’s trip to Huizhou and his prose compositions there. The social background of this period was set by Wang Anshi’s change of law,and the old and new parties were attacking each other as the mainstream of the dynasty during this period.Su Shi was rebuffed by the new party and was relegated to Yingzhou and Huizhou in quick succession.During his relegation to Huizhou,Su Shi wrote a total of 359 prose pieces, and his writing style was more casual and natural than that of the earlier period.Su Shi’s prose of the Huizhou period is generally characterised by its “richness of genre” and “variety of subject matter”.The prose of this character not only reflects the diverse and pluralistic direction of Su Shi’s writing, but also represents the more peaceful and comfortable, breezy and distant state of mind in which Su Shi lived in Huizhou than in the earlier period. The second chapter is a study of the thematic content of Huizhou’s prose.Su Shi’s Huizhou prose contains detailed and profound themes, including the “settled” type of prose, which records the current state of his life in Huizhou,as well as the “thoughts” type of prose, which records his life in Huizhou and often misses or triggers certain emotions in him,and There are also essays on “requests” “scholarship” and “greetings”.These essays show the life and thoughts of Su Shi in Huizhou from the personal and popular levels, and then reflect his mentality and sentiments. The third chapter is a study of the aesthetic qualities of Huizhou’s prose. The artistic and aesthetic value of Su Shi’s Huizhou prose deserves recognition. The combination of parallel and loose literary language has created the rhythmic beauty of the prose;the rambling tone of the letter writing has shaped the smooth beauty of the work in a single breath;the light and pleasant state of mind has fulfilled the beauty of Su Shi’s calm and open-minded personality;and the distinct and prominent regional characteristics have highlighted the natural beauty of Huizhou’s beauty and vividness. It can be said that Su Shi’s Huizhou prose exhibits great aesthetic characteristics and value in many aspects, including language, structure, content and spirit. The fourth chapter is a study of the influence of Huizhou prose on literary creation.Su Shi’s Huizhou prose continued to influence the creation of later generations of literature in terms of content and creative techniques. The “living content” and “personalised expression”of the prose enriched the content of later literary expressions, while its “intermingling of styles” and “assigning forms to objects” became the basis for later literary expressions. Its“intermingling of styles” and “assigning forms to objects” became a source of creative inspiration for later generations of writers.Later generations of literature have followed Su Shi’s path of “naturalistic” and “gestural” creation to produce a vital literary flower, and these works have filled the path of ancient literary heritage, and have displayed a free and spacious attitude and style under the sky of Chinese culture. These works fill the path of ancient literature and display a free and expansive attitude and style under the sky of Chinese culture.
