Thinking is the core of intelligence,and thinking quality reflects the individual characteristics of thinking.Developing students’ thinking quality plays a very important role in enhancing their ability to identify,analyze and solve problems.However,the survey found that the current English reading class is characterized by paucity of deep learning and whole reading,which fails to give full play to the effect of English reading on the cultivation of students’ thinking quality.Deep learning theory focuses on critical understanding,information integration and knowledge construction,higher-order thinking,transferability and problem solving.This provides a new perspective for cultivating students’ thinking quality in reading.Therefore,under the guidance of deep learning,constructivism,educational objective classification and metacognition theories,this study constructs a thinking-based teaching model for English reading class in junior high schools,trying to deepen English reading teaching so as to cultivate students’ thinking quality.This thesis mainly addresses the following three problems:1.How does junior high school English reading class cultivate students’ thinking quality?2.How to construct the thinking-based reading teaching model of junior high school English from the perspective of deep learning?3.What is the impact of this teaching mode on students’ thinking quality and English reading performance?Through questionnaire survey,classroom observation and teacher interview,it is found that the current level of thinking quality of junior high school students in a secondary school in Hanzhong City still needs to be improved.The teaching of English reading is confined to the study of language points,lacking the exploration of text logic and deep meaning,and the cultivation of thinking quality is not ideal.Teachers’ reading teaching ideas need to be updated.Then,based on the theories of deep learning,constructivism,classification of educational objectives and metacognition,this paper constructs a thinking-based reading teaching model that integrates pre-class preparation,classroom teaching and after-class summary.Finally,a three-month teaching experiment was conducted in a middle school in Hanzhong to test the teaching model.The results show that: firstly,the thinking-based reading teaching model from the perspective of deep learning can effectively improve students’ thinking quality level.Critical thinking is the biggest improvement,followed by logical and innovative thinking.Secondly,this teaching mode can help students improve their English reading performance,but it requires students to continuously lay a solid foundation and teachers to cultivate students’ thinking quality in reading for a long time.This teaching mode is a beneficial attempt to integrate deep learning theory and thinking quality,which can provide reference for front-line teachers to grasp how to cultivate students’ thinking quality in reading more deeply.
