Entrepreneurship and innovation activities are a powerful driving force to promote the country’s economic development and scientific and technological progress, and the cultivation of entrepreneurial talents is an important foundation for the vigorous development of entrepreneurial activities. In terms of entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial activities in the United States started earlier and have more experience, and the study of entrepreneurship in the United States has important reference significance for the development of entrepreneurship in China. In entrepreneurship research, psychological traits are an important basis for distinguishing entrepreneurs from non-entrepreneurs,and the psychological traits of entrepreneurs may be culturally different. Therefore, this paper studies the psychological traits of entrepreneurs and their differences in China and the U.S.in order to provide lessons for entrepreneurship in China.Using the four-dimensional model of interest, ability, personality and motivation as the framework, supplemented by positive psychology and psychological capital, and coping styles, this study analyzes the psychological traits of 56 Chinese entrepreneurs and 69 American entrepreneurs through literature analysis, behavioral event interviews, questionnaire surveys and data analysis, and completes the modeling of entrepreneurial competency qualities. It was found that due to cultural differences,Chinese and American entrepreneurs differed to some extent in their interests, abilities, personality, values, psychological capital, and coping styles. In terms of overall gender comparison,in terms of interests, men were more interested in sports and leisure activities than women;in terms of work ability, men were more likely than women to be good at managerial tasks in the self-assessment of ability;in terms of personality, men had higher neuroticism scores and were more emotionally unstable than women;in terms of values, women were more likely than men to seek equality and harmony with their supervisors and Working with like-minded partners. There were no significant differences in psychological capital or coping styles. When comparing countries,in terms of personality,Chinese entrepreneurial entrepreneurs are more likable;in terms of values,U.S.entrepreneurs are more likely than Chinese entrepreneurs to choose their preferred lifestyle;in terms of coping styles,U.S.entrepreneurial entrepreneurs are more positive, more likely to choose problem-solving coping styles, and less likely to choose retreating coping styles. When comparing entrepreneurs of different countries by gender,in terms of interests,American female entrepreneurs are more interested in mechanical activities than Chinese female entrepreneurs, and Chinese male entrepreneurs are more interested in managerial jobs than American male entrepreneurs;in terms of abilities,American female entrepreneurs have higher self-rated scores on mechanical jobs than Chinese female entrepreneurs, and Chinese female entrepreneurs have higher self-rated scores on managerial jobs than American female entrepreneurs. In terms of psychological capital,Chinese male entrepreneurs have higher psychological capital, higher self-efficacy,and more optimistic attitudes than American male entrepreneurs;in terms of coping styles,American male entrepreneurs are more positive and more likely to choose problem-solving coping styles than Chinese male entrepreneurs. However, due to the singularity of the factors examined during the study, the limitations of the sample, and the limitations of the design methodology, this study still has some shortcomings, and the credibility of the results can be improved in subsequent studies by considering other factors, expanding the sample size, and using other evaluation methods or retrospective surveys.
