| Figure-ground relation,in spite of its origin from the West without "figure-ground" concept and related theories in China’s art field,regardless of traditional or contemporary meticulous flower-and-bird paintings,has always existed as an important component of works that embodies the author’s painting style.Since its traditional and single development until complex diversity,no matter how the social aesthetics develops,the figure-ground relation of contemporary meticulous flower-and-bird paintings would still integrate the characteristics of the times based on inheriting and developing traditions,and express the artistic charm of the aesthetics in this era.By means of painting practice combined with theoretical research,this article elaborates the theory and related concepts of the figure–ground relation,as well as the dialectical relationship between the figure and the ground.Then,the author studies the characteristics of figure–ground relation in traditional meticulous flower-and-bird paintings and the presentation form of figure–ground relation in contemporary meticulous flower-and-bird paintings.Next,the author analyzes the figure–ground relation,artistic characteristics and presentation forms of the representative contemporary flower-and-bird paintings to explore the connotation beauty of figure–ground relation,so as to apply the theory of figure–ground relation to the author’s creation practice.In the end,the author explains own exploration of creation from four aspects: the content of creation,implied meaning,thoughts for creation,and figure–ground relation. |
