Worldwide cultural exchanges require all the countries to attach great importance to the shaping of national images and the improvement of cultural soft power.Thus Chinese colleges and universities also pay more attention to the construction and dissemination of campus culture,so as to enhance their international reputation and influences.This is also part of the construction of “First-class universities and disciplines of the world”.Tianjin University is not an exception.The author was commissioned by the Office of International Cooperation,Tianjin University to participate in the translation of Tianjin University’s 125 th Anniversary texts.The original material is The Characters of a Peiyang Scholar—Records of Professor Zhao Zuwu.This article describes Mr.Zhao Zuwu’s deeds and introduces his merits to the world.The author completed the translation and translation analysis under the guidance of domestication and foreignization.At the micro-level,it is focused on the translation of culturally loaded words and expressions with Chinese characteristics.A comparative study has been conducted on the translation of couplet,parallel sentences,and idioms with different rhetorical figures in the text.At the macro-level,the author has noticed the differences between Chinese and Western biographical literature.Under the framework of domestication and foreignization,the author explored the influence of the way of thinking,cultural accumulation,and historical development on the creation and translation of biographical literature.The study found that translation of biographical literature under domestication and foreignization can not only achieve the purpose of communication but also conform to the trend and expectation of cultural transmission.It is expected that this report can provide some advice for the Chinese-English translation of biographical literature. |
