A Study On The Phonology Of Jinhu Dialect In Jiangsu Province

Jinhu is in the middle of Hongchao,Jinhu Dialect has its own feature besides the commonness of Hongchao Dialect.Based on the field-investigation,this paper was mostly focused on the description of the phonology of Jinhu dialect and explored the diachronic evolution of it.By comparison,We dicussed the evolution of initial consonant Zhi Group(知系)and the frication of high vowels.Using the method of experimental phonetics to study the entering tone of Jinhu dialect.Compared with the surrounding dialects to explore the relationship between Jinhu dialect and surrounding dialects and figure the the influence of geographical location and administrative attribution on dialect.This paper includes five chapters:The first chapter is the introduction,which introduced the administrative division,immigration history,methodology,survey material and the information of speakers.The second chapter mainly includes two parts.The first part described the phonetic system of Jinhu dialect,which includes initials 、 finals and using Praat phonetic analysis software to describe the Jinhu dialect tones.The second part is the comparison with other phonetic systems,including the Minta dialect phonology and the phonology described in "Jinhu County Chronicle"(1994).The third chapter is compared with the ancient Chinese phonogy and analyzed the evolution of Jinhu dialect’s initials、finals and tones.Discussed the differentiation of the initial consonant Zhi Group(知系)and the mixed using of Ni(泥)Lai(来)Group.It also described the phenomenon of literary and colloquial readings of initials and finals.The fourth chapter is a monographic study about entering tone of Jinhu dialect.By means of experimental phonetics,we analyzed the development stage of Jinhu dialect’s entering tone and the retention of glottal stop.And further explored the influence of the main vowel of the entering rhyme on the glottal stop.The fifth chapter compared with surrounding dialects,and discussed the relationship between Jinhu dialect and surrounding dialects.Jinhu dialect is related to Yangzhou and Huai’an in terms of administrative ownership and geographical location.The influence of geographic location and administrative affiliation on dialect was explored by contrast.
