| The Methods of Mahayana’s Chiguan is an excellent treatise that can justify itself. In the theory of mind-nature,it is based on the "one mind"(the tathagatagarbha),and "the three great characteristics" solve the relationship between the tathagatagarbha(the true mind)and the alaya(the illusory mind),and put forward the "pure nature" and the "impure nature" are both in the tathagatagarbha."Impure nature" is the ability to come into being the things of world,"pure nature" is the ability to see clear the things of world, and whether saints or ordinary people equally hold the two natures. As for the methods of Chiguan, not only does it alternate between Chi and Guan at every small step to advance the depth of the observed realm, moreover, overall, there are two paths of Chiguan:"pure nature-elimination of the three natures-Chi"and"impure nature-infection origin of the three natures-guan".It is believed that Buddha and Bodhisattva also possess "impure nature",they can also be influened by all living beings’ potentiality and response, arising the "three natures",then magically product the Pure Land,to open the method of Guan. And all living beings to recite Buddha,Bodhisattva and all living beings are mutually beneficial in cultivating and becoming Buddhas. As for the overall structure, the " three great characteristics" and the "three natures"are matched one by one, making the connection between the mind-nature and Chiguan. In short, the unique features of this theory of the "Mahayana’s Chiguan" lie in the the"impure nature" and the "method of Guan"."nature infection" expands the capacity of the Tathagata, and the "impure nature" broadens the realm of "Chiguan".With the attitude of "philosophy is the history of philosophy",we can seek a positioning for the idea of the Methods of Mahayana’s Chiguan in the development process of Chinese Buddhist philosophy, and find that the "history of philosophy" has thrown the same problem to the Methods of Mahayana’s Chiguan and the Tiantai Sect. This book has integrated the Old Consciousness-Only Thoughts in the Northern and Southern Dynasties. The "one mind"ideology is a development of the Awakening of Mhayana Faith, and its "Mahayana’s Chiguan" is a kind of transformation of the "three natures" Chiguan from the Summary of the Great Vehicle translated by Paramartha. This is a fusion of the two systems of Tathagata and the Consciousness-Only Thoughts. This form conforms to the trend of fusing "the true mind"and "the illusory mind" from the Northern and Southern Dynasties to the Sui and Tang dynasties. In this trend of thought,Chinese Buddhism has formed its own subjectivity and basic style, this is implementing the concept of "Mahayana" in practice, and is no longer just a theoretical Mahayana like Indian Buddhism. In addition to the Methods of Mahayana’s Chiguan is in this trend of thought, the "the complete teaching" of the Tiantai Sect is also a model of this trend of thought, and it is the ultimate form of" Mahayana".The Tiantai Sect combines "true mind" and "the illusory mind" by a higher level that is "evil nature",and the unique feature of "evil nature" compared to previous Buddhism lies in its consideration of"compassion toward all being equally".The innovation of "the Methods of Mahayana’s Chiguan" compared to the Old Consciousness-only thoughts is that the "impure nature" and"the Guan method" are also elevated to a higher level to fuse "the ture mind" and "the illusory mind" under the consideration of "compassion".Therefore, although it is different from the Tiantai sect in the classics learned, the purpose and concern are the same to Tiantai. The"compassion" is the core of the Mahayana, and the implementation of "Mahayana" is the essence of the sinicization of Buddhism. Therefore,in terms of the philosophical problems they face and solve, the coordinates of the Methods of Mahayana’s Chiguan in the process of Buddhist philosophy’s development are parallel to those of the Tiantai sect.In terms of ideological form, they are all at the "turning point" that the Chinese Buddhism enhancing it’s temperament of the "Mahayana" and to transform to sectarian Buddhism. |
