The agile concept emerged as the software industry became increasingly competitive. The software localization process has transformed into a fast-paced model. This agile model is different from the traditional translation model in that translators need to be familiar with the workflow of the agile model, which requires teamwork, communication, continuous learning, and quick response. This thesis is a practice report based on the author’s internship experience in the localization group of the Product T Department in Company L.This report summarizes the challenges encountered in the localization of social software and how the Skopos theory is applied to guide the practice, providing practical solutions to localization challenges and examples for further localization research.Numerous examples will be given to support the five steps of the agile translation model, namely the full involvement of localization staff in the development process, continuous delivery, timely communication and feedback, enhanced language asset management and automation process, and agile LSP service. There are five chapters in this thesis.Chapter 1 is an introduction to the translation task, which describes the current state of development of the localization industry, the background of Product T,and research purpose.Chapter 2 introduces the translation process, including the pre-translation,translation per se,and post-translation periods.Chapter 3 introduces the theoretical framework of the Skopos theory and the translation model for agile software localization. It introduces the online shared document used in the localization process to deal with the emerging translation demands,as well as how the refined translations be marked in the shared document.Chapter 4 analyses various translated texts in the localization process.Chapter 5 concludes with findings and reflections, especially the application of the Skopos theory,in order to provide suggestions for localization participants.
