Anton Bruckner(1824-1896)was known to be one of the important Austrian composers of the late Romantic period of the late half of the 19th century.Among all his musical compositions,symphonies and religious works were the most famous.Bruckner was good at creating with counterpoint technology,and combines it with religious music features to create symphonies,forming a unique musical language.This paper takes Bruckner’s Symphony No.5 in bB major and Symphony No.8 in C minor as research texts and Further explores the composer’s comprehensive application of polyphonic techniques,polyphonic genres,and intrinsic polyphonic forms of thinking in symphonic works.The main body of the thesis consist of four chapters.The first chapter introduces Anton Bruckner’s life,the background,and the structural analysis of the two symphonies;The second,third and fourth chapters are the focus of this paper,mainly studying the polyphonic technique and the composition of the polyphonic genre(fugue)in symphonies.By looking through the study of the two symphonies,we can have a deeper understanding of the multi-phonic thinking and creative concept in Bruckner’s symphonies,and to deeply understand Bruckner’s spiritual world.It will provide certain reference significance for future music creation and theoretical research.
