Franz Liszt(1811-1886)was a Hungarian composer.He was one of the most influential composers of the Romantic era.He influenced the music of the Romantic era and inspired the music trend of the 20 th century with his unique writing style,unconventional musical techniques and meaningful musical meaning.At the same time,as a piano player known for his dazzling skills,he is also controversial.This paper takes The Faust Symphony created by Liszt when he moved to Weimar as the research object.As an important work in the mature stage of creation,the author will take the music analysis as the breakthrough point to conduct a new interpretation of the connotation of the work,explore the spiritual core of the work,and interpret the author’s creation motivation.In the Faust Symphony,the composer named three movements Faust,Grenth and Mefesit,subtitled the work "Three Portraits." By condensing the character and destiny of the three main characters in the first part of Goethe’s poetic drama Faust into the symphony,a set of musical vocabulary system is formed.Among them,the rich use of orchestration colors,the decomposition or deformation of the theme,the use of dissonant intervals have become the focal point of this work,full of the composer’s personal bright colors.The use of music elements to shape the character image of literary works,so that the works have magnificent music color and profound spiritual connotation,which are the embodiment of the composer’s unique creativity.The paper consists of five parts,the introduction part mainly describes the reason of the topic selection,the significance of the topic selection,as well as the research status at home and abroad,research methods and ideas;The first chapter mainly introduces liszt’s life and the main content of Goethe’s Faust.The second chapter tells the composition and practice of liszt’s title music,as well as the comparative analysis of two Faust related music works related to Faust Symphony.The third chapter music analysis,is the core part of the whole paper,according to the characteristics of the music as a whole,from the theme of melody,tonality,harmony,texture,etc.,which will focus on the theme deformation of the music creation technique,depicting all the characters of the movement;The fourth chapter,as the conclusion of the paper,summarizes the composer’s creative thoughts.
