| The "Henan Xiaoqu" is a small and medium-sized erhu piece created by the master of the huqin,Liu Mingyuan,based on the "major tune" of a local opera in Henan and the playing techniques of the quhu.The music is short and clear,rich in the local flavour of Henan,and vividly portrays the humorous,funny and cheerful character of Henan people.The music has been widely circulated and performed since its composition,resulting in a variety of performance versions.In this article,we compare and contrast the versions of Liu Mingyuan,Song Fei and Duan Aiwei in terms of duration,technique and style of playing,as they present different styles of playing the same piece.Through a comparative analysis of the performance versions,the performers will be able to summarise their innovative thinking and performance techniques in their practice,thus improving their grasp of Henan’s style and flavour. |
