What Is A "Good" Lawver

Lawyers are the main practitioners of the rule of law.The construction of the rule of law in China needs the participation of "good" lawyers.But what is a "good" lawyer?The traditional legal professional ethics takes the "standard conception" as the basic position,revolving around the interests of the clients.However,lawyers who stand on this position are easily reduced to tools for manipulating the law,and often use the independence of professional ethics as an excuse to avoid the inspection of daily morality.Lawyers,as users of rules,play a significant role in the realization of basic social good,so it is obviously unrealistic to propose a solution of "de professionalization".What’s more,it is true that the requirement of professional ethics that is loyal to the law for lawyers solves the difficulty of judgment caused by moral differences and reduces the burden of lawyers’ judgment.However,due to its emphasis on the lawyer’s external actions,the theory brings lawyers the opportunity to pursue the interests of the client in a way that challenges the bottom line of law.Virtue ethics is concerned with the moral character of the actor,which should be the justification for the action of a "good" lawyer.At the same time,it should improve the lawyer professional ethics system based on the virtue ethics.
