Music Analysis And Performance Interpretation Of Francis Poulenc’s "Three Novelettes"

Francis Poulenc is the 20 th French composer and pianist.Three of his piano works "Three Novelettes" are different in style,relaxed and clear,showing a strong neo-classical style,which is worthy of the author’s in-depth study.This paper analyzes the works through literature review,analysis and induction,which is mainly divided into the following three chapters.Chapter 1 Introduce Poulenc’s life and the creative background of "Three Novelettes",and explain Poulenc’s piano music creation characteristics in different periods.Chapter 2 is music analysis of "Three Novelettes".In terms of structure,the layout is clear and regular,and it develops innovatively on the basis of returning to classicism;In harmony,adding additional chords,overlapping chords,etc.to traditional functional harmony makes it produce dissonance;In the aspect of mode,it inherited the thinking of mode alternation in the classical period,and made innovations by adding the mode alternation of big and small mode system and church mode,and the tonality expansion in the 20 th century.The application of French popular elements in the works is Poulenc’s revival of French entertainment music culture.Chapter 3 analyze the performance of "Three Novelettes",and grasp the different melodies,speeds and dynamics,voice levels and other aspects of the three works in combination with my own performance experience,so that more people can grasp the performance style of "Three Novelettes"...
