| Creative treason put forward by Robert Escarpit means that translation is both treason and creative because the work will be placed in an unexpected language system, and will appear in a new look in the new environment to have literary communication with new readers and have its second life.During this process, the translator needs to actively exert and apply creativity, reinterpret the source text according to the social and cultural environment of the target language and the reception psychology of readers to have a new literary exchange with a wider range of readers.Under the guidance of creative treason, the author translated The Isle of Youth by American writer Laura van den Berg. And this report is based on the translation practice to explore the application of creative treason in E-C translation of short story.Personalized translation, addition, omission and conscious mistranslation are used in order to reproduce the unique characters of the novel and reflect social phenomena, bring the target readers enthralling and enlightening reading experience and spiritual encouragement, and provide suggestions for future research and practice. The research shows that creative treason is essential in literary translation and it can guide the translation of short story, especially the translation of slang and dialogues.During the translation, personalized translation could be used in translating slang, habitual expressions, the same word appearing with different implied meaning and cultural images with different cultural connotations;addition could be used to supplement the implied content of the original text and strengthen the description of the environment;omission could be used in deleting redundant conjunctions and repeated explanations;and conscious mistranslation could be used in translating some expressions in the original text which are vague and do not conform to Chinese expression habits and way of thinking. The translator should fully understand the original characters and the connotation of the novel and give full scope to creativity in order to better shape the characters and maintain the style of the original text. |
