Reading is one of the crucial methods in obtaining information,which makes it a necessity in education,even literacy a sign of being educated.With the increasingly diversified educational needs of modern people,the cultivation of literacy has gradually shifted to multiliteracies.In order to cultivate the multiliteracy for primary school students and improve English reading teaching in primary schools,this study is based on the concept of Learning by Design,and tries to apply the Multiliteracies Pedagogy to English reading class in primary schools.On the whole,this research needs to solve two problems:one is the suitability of the cultivation of multiliteracies in primary school;another is the practical application on Multiliteracies Pedagogy.In order to solve the above problems and form a instructional design oriented to multiliteracies in English reading class,the methods of literature review and case analysis are mainly adopted.Under the guidance of relevant educational theories and instructional design principles on multiliteracies,the multimodal reading Helping our Parents,in the Yilin version English textbooks in primary school,is taken as an example,in which the teaching objectives,content,process and evaluation are designed respectively to form a complete instructional design.As for the design of teaching objectives,the abilities on language literacy,social communication and technical literacy should be focused.Firstly,as for the target of language literacy in multi-text,it is necessary to expand the knowledge in reading through the topic of this reading,and interpret the structure from the narrative style.Then,as for the target of social communicative in multiculturalism,the cultural factors in the theme context should be developed,so as to cultivate learners’ critical thinking in discourse interpretation.Finally,with the support of information media equipment,the target of technical literacy is designed,focusing on the formation of students’ awareness of information technology,and enriching their experience of media operations.As for the design of teaching content,it is necessary to select and coordinate the main modalities for teaching scenarios,discourse content,and classroom discourse in Helping our Parents respectively,based on the meaning potential of modalities and the principles of modal selection.First of all,with the help of audio-visual modalities,the teaching theme situation is created,which emphasize the importance of the context in the connection between the new and the old knowledge.Secondly,the language knowledge is highlighted by adjusting the form of written modalities,and the text structure is sorted out with the help of diagrams.Finally,the oral mode is used as the "hinge" of the whole teaching activity,and the interactive design of discourse between “people-equipment” and “people-people” are aimed at cultivating students’ critical thinking and practical ability.As for the design of teaching process,it should be based on the concept of Learning by Design,taking Multiliteracies Pedagogy: situated practice,overt instruction,critical framing and transformed practice as the framework,and design the three parts: pre-reading,while-reading and post-reading.In the design of the pre-reading,it is essential to create a situation to mobilize the students’ existing knowledge and experience,and pay attention to the positive effect of the existing schema on reading.In the design of the while-reading,the explicit guidance of teachers is emphasized,building a teaching scaffold to interpret the meaning of the text and sorting out the structure.In the design of the post-reading,students are encouraged to think critically about discourse by promoting discussions and cooperation.Besides,it is advocated to transform and practice of learners by providing them with a platform for innovative applications to facilitate the effective transfer of learning.As for the design of teaching evaluation,it is crucial to use a variety of modal forms to evaluate the achievement of the teaching objectives,aiming to promote learning efficiency.According to the characteristics of the multiliteracies in primary school,this study designs evaluation contents in written form and discourse interactive form respectively.In particularly,since the festure of technical ability in primary school,its evaluation is relatively reflected in the whole teaching process by experiencing and operating.In the evaluation on Helping our Parents,emphasis is placed on the process of evaluation.By designing self-assessment,other-assessment and classroom observation forms,the diversity of evaluation subjects are enriched,which focuses on the development of students’ abilities.Finally,in order to test the practical effect of instructional design,this study puts it into practice.It can be known that the this instructional design is indeed feasible,which can fulfill the teaching objectives,improve students’ multiliteracies,and evoked students’ learning enthusiasm and initiative.
