The Predictive Role Of Animal Image In The Assessment Of Perfectionism

The purpose of this study is to explore the predictive role of animal images in perfectionism evaluation,and three sub-studies are used to explore.A total of 384 college students from University in Beijing were invited to fill out the Chinese version of Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Questionnaire to explore whether animal images can represent perfectionism.The first study found that:(1)The choice of animal images symbolizing perfectionism is centralized,and cats are the most representative.(2)Each type of animal represents different aspects of perfectionism,carnivores usually symbolize the high goal of perfectionism,herbivores symbolize the sensitivity and delicacy of perfectionism,domestic animals represent self-discipline and perseverance,insects symbolize the result of perfectionism,and collections represent perfection from all sides.In the second study,52 college students were selected to explore whether there are differences between self-animal images and animal characteristics in perfectionism questionnaire by measuring the animal sub-personality technology.The results show that:(1)The more herbivores appear,the higher the total score of perfectionism and parents’ expectation dimension,the more domestic animals,the lower the score of organization,while the other animal classifications have no significant correlation with other dimensions of perfectionism;(2)In animal characteristics,there is no significant difference in giving animals sex among non-perfectionism group,perfectionism tendency group and typical perfectionism group,but there is significant difference in hairless animal images between perfectionism tendency group and typical perfectionism group.In the third study,six college students were selected for individual interviews.According to their personal characteristics in life,the interviews were conducted to understand the specific connotation of college students’ choice of animal images symbolizing perfectionism,and their differences and connections with self-animal images.It is found that the subjects’ motivation to pursue perfectionism and their attitude towards perfectionism can be inferred through animal images.To sum up,this study proves that perfectionism does have differences in animal images,and animal sub-personality technology in image communication therapy can be applied to the identification and evaluation of perfectionism.
