| This report is completed on the basis of translation of a lease contract between Hefei XX Auto Co.,Ltd and Hefei XX Commercial and Trading Co.,Ltd.By means of case analysis,it makes a study of the principles and strategies for translating Chinese informational texts into English under the guidance of Nida’s Theory of Functional Equivalence.The fundamental principle of Nida theory is functional equivalence,which holds that good translation does not seek rigid correspondence between words,but strives for functional equivalence between source language and target language.According to this theory,translation is to reproduce message conveyed by the source language with the most appropriate,natural and equivalent expressions,both semantically and stylistically.So it is important to ensure the objectivity and accuracy of translation,especially in dealing with informational text.For this purpose,translators should use simple and precise language,avoid being misled by formal correspondence,and re-present the information of the original text.In view of the accurate,rigorous,formal and standardized language used in leasing contract,this report makes specific,problemoriented analysis and discussion of translation strategies in the light of functional equivalence.At the lexical level,the translator combined the example adopting free translation to ensure the accuracy of terminology translation,and translated verbs into nouns and adjectives by means of conversion to make them conform to the characteristics of nominalization of English language.At the sentence level,the translator restructures the original sentence sequence,adopts combination,and turn active voice into passive voice to guarantees the accurate expression of the information.By changing the structure and order of sentences,strive to achieve syntactic and textual equivalence.Through this translation practice,translator improved translation skills and provided translation strategies and methods for texts of the same type in the future. |
