A Study On The Chinese Culture Inheritance Of Filipino-chinese Associations

Chinese culture is the cultural root of overseas Chinese.As the main gathering place of overseas Fujian Chinese,the Chinese community in Manila is prosperous in business and trade.Chinese schools,Chinese media and Chinese associations also gathered here,the Chinese community has become the core place to carry out Chinese cultural activities.Among them,the Filipino-Chinese associations are unique among overseas Chinese communities due to their large number,strong functions,and high activity.This paper will explore the characteristics,current situation and thinking of inheritance of Chinese culture through case study and field research.In the case study,this article will put Kaisa Para Sa Kaunlaran,Overseas Chinese Alumni Association of the Phil,Culture Center of TECO in the Philippines,and Philippine-Chinese Charitable Association,Inc.as cases.Analyzing the background,and activities related to Chinese culture,we finally find that cultural and social functions are the most prominent functions of Chinese associations in the inheritance of Chinese culture.The core performance of these two functions is cultural and educational activities and Charity activities,they not only contain important elements of Chinese culture,but are also important and key means for the inheritance of Chinese culture.Field research results show that,on the one hand,with the deepening of the integration into the mainstream society,the Filipino Chinese perception of Chinese culture is desalinated,and the enthusiasm for the Chinese associations is reduced,which leads to a crisis of the inheritance of Chinese culture.On the other hand,Chinese culture still has a strong influence in the Chinese community.The positive attitude of the Filipino Chinese towards community activities and the continuous flow of new immigrants make the associations continue,and the Chinese community is still the backbone of the inheritance of Chinese culture.In general,the localization of Chinese associations and Chinese culture is a manifestation of the assimilation of the overseas Chinese and the result of survival of the fittest.More importantly,localization is a choice of integration and a mode for the overseas Chinese community to inherit Chinese culture.The overseas Chinese will still integrate Chinese cultures into the local society through persistence from generation to generation.
