Between 1936 and 1937,as the national crisis deepened,National Defence Drama arises at the historic moment,in theory,creation,performance,three aspects has achieved fruitful results,and effectively to expose the invaders and the traitors ravaged killing domestic crimes,and revealed the resistance behavior of the national government,shows the brave students,workers and volunteers struggle,it played a role in educating and guiding the public to rise up against it.Comprehensive Anti-Japanese War broke out,because of the substitution of Anti-Japanese War Drama to National Defense Drama,the researchers view more confined to the "Sai Jinhua",academic circles to the overall defense plays less research articles,based on this,this article attempts in the text,the historical data mining on the basis of combing the generation and development of national defense plays context,to explore the uniqueness of its source of theory and practice,summarize its gains and losses in art,and draw lessons from the experience,objectively evaluate its value of the times.In addition to the introduction and conclusion,this paper is divided into three chapters.The introduction defines the concept of the research object and combs the research history of National Defense Drama.The first chapter discusses the origin of National Defense Drama theory.After the slogan of "National Defense Drama" was put forward,Zhang Geng,Zhou Gangming,Li Sheng and others published articles in the column of "National Defense Drama Special" opened by "Life Knowledge" to discuss the content,themes,creative program and other issues of National Defense Drama.Their articles were based on the reality of Japan’s invasion of China from 1931 to 1936 and the anti-aggression activities in China.They were influenced by the patriotic plays of resisting the enemy and saving the nation created by Tian Han and Chen Ningqiu during the period of left-wing drama,and continued the spirit of emphasizing reality and struggle in the left-wing drama.In addition,they found in practice that National Defense Dramas could not closely contact the public and the reform of the old operas had not been implemented,therefore,they put forward the viewpoints of building "the drama of life changing its life" and continuing to promote the reform of the old operas to supplement and perfect the previous theory.The second chapter discusses the uniqueness of National Defense Drama in its creation and performance.From 1935 to 1936,the domestic realistic struggle situation was severe,and the need for national salvation was urgent.When the drama workers created and performed,they tried to achieve the goal of strengthening the propaganda of resisting the enemy and saving the nation in terms of the choice of dramatic conflicts,the shaping of characters and the presentation of stage effects.The performance is as follows:Firstly,in order to emphasize the theme of "anti-imperialist,Anti-Japanese and anti-traitors",they focused on the conflicts between the people and the traitors,the people and the invaders.Secondly,in order to show the grand struggle scenes in the limited stage space,they shape the role of "leaders" in the plays.Thirdly,in order to enhance the appeal of the drama,to complete the purpose of educating the public and propagandizing the struggle,they pointed out the way for the people to move from oppression to awakening and resistance.Finally,in order to arouse the emotions of readers and audiences,they use uplifting slogans in their plays,create sympathetic or inspiring female images,design tragic and stirring endings,and use the power of tragedy to arouse the public’s passion for protest.With the joint efforts of the drama workers,the plays are characterized by distinctive themes,easy performance,strong appeal to the masses,and give full play to the educational and propaganda function of drama.The third chapter discusses the problems existing in National Defense Drama,considers the methods to enhance the artistic value of the drama,and analyzes its value and status in the history of modern Chinese drama.From 1936 to 1937,National Defense Dramas were designed to serve the propaganda of resisting the enemy and saving the nation.Most of them were "rushed to the point",some playwrights held the same creative ideas as those in the Left-wing period and emphasizing the social education and propaganda function of drama,ignoring the laws of drama art itself.In this period,the National Defense Dramas have such artistic defects as single creation mode,lack of personality of characters and weak drama language.Compared with "Descendants of Traitors" and "White sugar" and other works,the academic circle tends to pay more attention to "Sai Jinhua",investigate its’reason,on the one hand,associated with the argument of "two slogans",on the other hand,plays,shows the true human nature,select the creation method of "History+Allegory",pay attention to language skills,able to mobilize the readers and viewers in the heart of compassion,discontent,such as complex emotions,meaning deep and thoughtful,high artistic value.Taking "Sai Jinhua" as an example to think about how to enhance the artistic value of the play,can provide a reference for the future drama creation.The conclusion objectively evaluates the value and status of National Defense Drama.On the one hand,National Defense Drama is of great significance to expose Japan’s crimes of aggression and educate and guide the public to unite and fight.On the other hand,jumping out of the period of 1936-1937,National Defense Drama plays a role of connecting the past and the future,inheriting the spirit of left-wing drama creation,especially laying a foundation for drama creation and performance activities in the early Anti-Japanese War.Therefore,we need to objectively evaluate its status,correctly understand its value,and increase the public’s attention and recognition to it.
