Locative words are an important and special group of words in modern Chinese system of word classes,they have high frequency of use,and have intricate semantic and grammatical functions as well.Chinese locative words’ complex meanings and usages,especially their extended meanings and usages,are not easy for foreign students to understand and acquire,so the students often make errors.The characters of Chinese simple locative words and compound locative words are different.Chinese simple locative words have strong adhesive property while most compound locative words can be used independently.Based on the study of Chinese simple locative words,we analyze the types of foreigners’ errors and the reasons why they make errors.We find that foreigners’ errors could be divided into two categories,one is semantic error,the other is syntax error.We also find that syllabuses and textbooks that related to teaching Chinese as a foreign language have an effect on foreigners.The first chapter briefly explains the causes of the selection of the subject,current research situation,research thought and methods of this thesis.The second chapter describes and analyzes semantic levels of simple locative words,compares several groups of simple locative words’ meanings and usages,offers some teaching strategies after analyzing the types of foreigners’ errors and the reasons why they make semantic errors.The third chapter describes the syntax of simple locative words,analyzes the types of foreigners’ errors and the reasons why they make syntax errors,provides some targeted advice.The fourth chapter analyzes how the syllabuses and textbooks that related to teaching Chinese as a foreign language arrange and explain the knowledge of simple locative words and their deficiencies.Then we offer several corresponding suggestions on syllabuses making and textbooks compilation,so as to provide some credible references and ideas for the teaching of simple locative words in teaching Chinese as a second language.
