Metaphor Study From The Perspective Of Semiotics Of Language And Image

From the study of Aristotle’s rhetoric to the interdisciplinary study of metaphor,metaphor has always been a topic of concern in the humanities,which also shows that metaphor has always had the vitality of theory in the study of humanities.For the study of the literature-image relationship,the problems to be solved are: what are the characteristics of semiotic metaphor,and what are the similarities and differences between language and image symbol? This paper is trying to integrate correlational metaphor studies of language and image symbol in a semiotic way,then discuss the similarities,differences,mutual transformation as well as cooperative relationship of metaphors in language and image symbols.Meanwhile,this paper pays special attention to the "intersemiotic metaphor" of the "intersemiotic text" in this digital media age,in which heterogeneous signs cooperate and integrate with each other more ofen.In this paper,the study of metaphor is carried out by the research method of semiotics of language and image,and the study of metaphor is integrated with the study of linguistics and iconology with semiotics of language and image.Part one analyzes the metaphorical nature of symbols and the symbolic nature of metaphors in order to reveal the similarities between language and image symbols.Part two analyzes the differences and the mutual conversion between the two aspects.Part three analyzes the cooperation of the two facts and the intersemiotic metaphor in intersemiotic text.This paper holds that symbols have metaphorical properties,that is to say,metaphors exist in different heterogeneous symbols,and there are certain differences among metaphors of different heterogeneous symbols.At the same time,metaphor is also an important joint point to achieve the cooperation and integration of heterogeneous symbols,thus it is the presentation of the relationship between heterogeneous symbols,and it is also the basis of the existence of "intersemiotic text".Moreover,"intersemiotic metaphor" is an important way to think about the mechanism of intersemiotic text meaning making in the era of digital media.
