Ding Yunpeng’s Research On "Sweeping Elephant Painting"

Ding Yunpeng,whose name is Nanyu,was born in Xiuning,Anhui.He is good at painting taoist figures,and landscape painting.Ding Yunpeng was active in the late Ming Dynasty.At that time,social unrest and cultural activities were contested by a hundred schools of thought,forming a style of variant painting in the late Ming Dynasty.He advocated Buddhism and had close personal ties with many important literati in the late Ming Dynasty,which was a significant contribution to the painting history and religious thoughts in the late Ming Dynasty.He took part in Hui-style printmaking in the late Ming Dynasty and was closely related to printmaking.During the period of entering the imperial court,he participated in and worked as the main painter to draw Ming dynasty’s masterpieces "the chu jing map" and " the ru bi map".There are many representative works by Ding Yunpeng,but the most common one in his works is his " Painting of Sweeping elephant ".He created more than ten paintings on the theme of " Painting of Sweeping elephant " in his whole life.Studying Ding Yunpeng’s " Painting of Sweeping elephant " can probe into the religious and cultural trends in the late Ming Dynasty.Ding Yunpeng’s representative works are numerous,but the one that appears most often in his works is his " Painting of Sweeping elephant " and the creation of more than one theme painting of sweeping images.Studying Ding Yunpeng’s " Sweeping elephant Picture" can probe into the religious and cultural trends in the late Ming Dynasty,and take " Sweeping elephant Picture" as the starting point to study Ding Yunpeng’s painting development context and artistic thought,and make contributions to the later painters’ research on the origin of paintings with similar themes.This paper mainly uses the research methods of document and plate mutual authentication and tabulation statistics to study the scanning images of different periods in Ding Yunpeng and their influence.First of all,according to the literature review,Ding Yunpeng’s life,artistic experience and friends were explored.The overall artistic style should be traced back to the years when he was a teacher of Zhan Jingfeng.Studied the ancients and Ding Yunpeng’s years of birth and death and his time in a famous painting academy,Affecting his overall style change were demonstrated.Secondly,statistics are made on the scanned images of past dynasties before Ding Yunpeng,trying to analyze their evolution and religious meaning.Statistics are made on all scanned images under Ding Yunpeng’s name again,and their style evolution and religious meaning are analyzed.In the end,it gives an example of the image-sweeping map after Ding Yunpeng and its related articles,analyzes its significance evolution after Ding Yunpeng.It is concluded that the image-sweeping map has gradually lost its religious significance in Qing Dynasty and has become a product with universal value of fine arts,while the image-sweeping map of Ding Yunpeng has played an important role in this evolution.
