| Sedentary behavior and video time are closely related to the physical and mental health of children and adolescents.By investigating the current situation of sedentary behavior among children and adolescents in different regions of China and the incidence of depressive symptoms among children and adolescents in different regions, this study explored the relationship between sedentary behavior and depression, enriching the research content of sedentary behavior among children and adolescents in China and providing theoretical basis for the intervention of depression. In this study, children and adolescents in grades 4-12 and their parents were selected from 18 provinces and municipalities in China, including Shanghai,Anhui Province and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The Children’s Depression Inventory(CDI),the Revised Physical Activity Rating Scale, the Self-prepared Sedent Behavior Questionnaire of Children and Adolescent and the Sedent Behavior Questionnaire of Parents were used to investigate a total of 4,275 children and adolescents.A total of 3,242 parents were enrolled.Descriptive statistics and t test were used to present and test the current situation of sedentary behavior and depression.Correlation analysis and multiple linear regression were used to analyze the relationship between sedentary behavior, video behavior and depressive symptoms of children and adolescents in China. The results show that the average daily sedentary time of Chinese children and adolescents is 312.86 minutes, including 309 minutes per day for boys and 318.14 minutes per day for girls.Among all types of sedentary behaviors, learning behaviors accounted for a higher proportion of children and adolescents’ sedentary behaviors(70.43%),followed by video(13.03%)and cultural leisure(13.53%),and traffic(3.00%)was the least. At the same time, the study found that parents’ sedentary time is positively correlated with children and adolescents’ sedentary time, and parents’ intervention and reminder of children and adolescents’ sedentary behavior for long time,as well as restriction of video time is negatively correlated with sedentary time. The positive rate of depressive symptoms was 13.1% in all subjects,11.5% in boys and 14.6% in girls.Regression analysis showed a positive correlation between sedentary time and depression(β=0.005,p<0.01),a positive correlation between video time and depression(β=0.02,p<0.01),and a negative correlation between interrupted sedentary behavior and depression(β=-0.41,p <0.01).The above results indicate that(1)Chinese children and adolescents have a long sedentary time in daily life, and the sedentary time of girls is higher than that of boys, and the long sedentary time of learning is the main reason for the long sedentary time of children and adolescents.(2)Sedentary time is closely related to the occurrence of depression. The more sedentary time is,the higher the risk of depression is.(3)There is a positive correlation between video time and the occurrence of depression. It is not the type of video behavior but the cumulative time of video behavior that plays a decisive role. The longer the video behavior time is,the higher the risk of depression is. |
