Animal Image In Disney Animation Films From The Perspective Of Environmental Communication

With the development of environmental research,more and more media began to focus on the reproduction of nature,and it is inseparable from our perception and attitude to the natural environment.With the discussion of environmental communication or ecological vision,documentaries of nature or wild animals often jumps to our minds,but due to its uniqueness,the audience base is relatively small.Comparing to documentaries and news reports,animation has natural advantages,such as a broader audience base,wider age group,and with the primary audience being teenagers.The portrayal of animals in animation is a more direct way of presenting the creator’s attitudes towards nature.Disney Animation,as the global leader of animation industry,about 50% of its works involve animals,so this article focuses on the research perspective on the description of animal images in Disney’s animation films.The objective creativity in his works leads a path to a more accurate understanding of nature.The introduction part of the thesis primarily elaborates the research background,research content and research methods adopted,and establishes the theoretical basis and the current research status of the predecessors;Chapter 2 explains the concepts of image and animal image,details the development of Disney animation over the years and lists the classic animal images of Disney from 1927 to 2019;Chapter 3 focuses on the analysis of the animal images,themes and narratives in eight Disney animation films and it was found that the portrayal of animal images in Disney animated films gradually borrowed from the first stage to the second stage,reflecting the continuous progress of Disney’s environmental awareness;Chapter 4 analyzes the motivations behind the changes in Disney’s animal images;Chapter 5 is the summary of this article with reflection.From the perspective of environmental communication,this article discusses the changes of Disney animation films portraying different animal images,interprets some of Disney’s significant animation films,analyzes the narrative logic used and the themes presented,and summarizes with reflection.Through my research,it is found that the animal image occupies an extremely important position in Disney’s animation films.Its depiction of animal images has undergone a long period of changes.Behind this change,it also reflects the continuous improvement of Disney’s environmental awareness,but Disney as the animation industry’s leader should have a more developed sense of responsibility in constructing environmental issues.
