Abstract/Summary:
Objective:By collecting the TCM evidence elements of patients with rapid eye movement sleep behaviour disorder(RBD)and any one of Parkinson’s disease(PD),dementia with Lewy bodies(DLB)and multiple system atrophy(MSA),the correlation between TCM evidence elements and neurodegenerative diseases in patients with RBD was analysed, with a view to providing a clinical basis for early intervention in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. Methods:In this study,82 cases of RBD with any one of PD,DLB and MSA were collected and surveyed with polysomnography, general information questionnaires, the Chinese University of Hong Kong Rapid Eye Movement Sleep Behaviour Disorder Scale and the Chinese Medicine Evidence Elements of Rapid Eye Movement Sleep Behaviour Disorder Scale. The results of the survey were compiled and entered into the computer to form the REM sleep behaviour disorder database system, and the information in the database system was correlated using statistical software(SPSS26.0),with n(%)used for statistical descriptions of the count data. The count data were compared using a 2-test,with Pearson’s chi-square selected when the number of theories with values<5 accounted for<20%and the total number>40,and Fisher’s exact test analysis selected when the number of theories with values<5 accounted for>20%and the total number<40.Results:1.The prevalence of men and women is 2.29:1,which is in line with the guidelines for the treatment of men>women.2.The high prevalence age range was 50-70 years.3.In patients with RBD,among the TCM pathological element groups, phlegm and stasis were associated with neurodegenerative disease(P=0.012<0.05),qi deficiency, yang deficiency and qi depression(P=0.029<0.05),and yang deficiency, yin deficiency and qi depression(P=0.027<0.05).4.In patients with RBD,there was no significant correlation between the TCM disease element group and neurodegenerative disease(P≥ 0.05).Conclusion:Through data analysis, when patients with RBD presented with both phlegm and stasis and Yang deficiency,Yin deficiency and Qi depression pathologies, they were more likely to develop Parkinson’s or Lewy body dementia at a later stage;while when they presented with Qi deficiency,Yang deficiency and Qi depression pathologies, they were more likely to suffer from Lewy body dementia at a later stage;probably due to the small sample size, short follow-up period, small geographical area and the scattered TCM symptom elements of patients, the correlation between TCM symptom elements and multi-system atrophy and the correlation between TCM pathological elements and neurodegenerative diseases in patients with RBD was not concluded in this study at the moment.
