Purpose Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD)is a common and frequently-occurring disease of the respiratory system. It is one of the main causes of death and disability worldwide.Micro RNAs(miRNAs)play a very important role in cell differentiation, cell proliferation, and cell survival.Emerging evidence shows that changing the expression of miRNAs in respiratory diseases can regulate the pathogenesis of the disease. Therefore,miRNAs have value as novel biomarkers for respiratory diseases. If there are differences in biomarkers between COPD patients and healthy people, treatment options can be started as soon as possible, which provides powerful help for early diagnosis, severity assessment, clinical treatment, and long-term prognosis of patients.Among the numerous miRNAs,miR-150-5p,composed of 22 nucleotides,is involved in many biological processes such as cell differentiation, proliferation, apoptosis, and autophagy. Some basic studies have confirmed the relationship between miR-150-5p and lung inflammation and lung injury. It can be speculated that it has a certain association with the diagnosis and prognosis of COPD.Therefore, this study aims to study the plasma miR-150-5p in COPD patients and explore whether it may become a biomarker of COPD.Methods Peripheral blood plasma specimens of 59 confirmed COPD patients and 26 healthy controls who were hospitalized in Hefei Hospital Affiliated with Anhui Medical University from September 2021 to September 2022,and the expression level of plasma miR-150-5p was detected by real-time quantitative PCR.Results Plasma miR-150-5p was significantly different between COPD patients and healthy control groups. The relative expression level of miR-150-5p was higher in COPD patients with severe airflow limitation(severe group). Moreover, there were significant differences among the mild group, severe group, and healthy control group(P < 0.05).The relative expression level of plasma miR-150-5p may be associated with common clinical indicators such as WBC count,CRP,and age in COPD patients. The expression level of plasma miR-150-5p in COPD patients is positively correlated with lung function indicators. The relative expression level of plasma miR-150-5p is valuable in the clinical diagnosis of COPD patients(AUC = 0.819,sensitivity 64.4%,specificity 92.3%).Conclusion MiR-150-5p,as a relatively abundant miRNA in blood samples, has the potential to become a clinical biomarker in COPD patients.Plasma miR-150-5p has the value of evaluating the severity of the disease in COPD patients.Plasma miR-150-5p in COPD patients is positively correlated with lung function indicators. This may be due to its combination with checkpoints to significantly enrich genes related to lung function decline. The relative expression level of plasma miR-150-5p is valuable in the clinical diagnosis of COPD patients(AUC = 0.819,sensitivity 64.4%,specificity 92.3%).
