Analysis Of Elderly Deaths In Yaoshan Community From 2017 To 2021

Objective:By analyzing the deaths of elderly people aged 65 years or older in the community of Yaoshan in Tongling City from 2017 to 2021,we will understand the mortality rate,causes of death and related factors affecting the place of death,and provide a basis for promoting healthy aging and developing hospice care in the community to improve the quality of life.Methods:All 334 cases of death in Yaoshan community during five years from 2017 to2021 were collected through the Tongling Public Health Information System,and 258cases of death among the elderly aged 65 years or older were selected and statistically analyzed by SPSS 25.0 software in terms of gender,mortality rate,age,cause of death,and place of death.Results:1.The number of elderly deaths accounted for 77.25%of the total number of deaths in Yaoshan community in 2017～2021,and the ratio of total male to female deaths was1.22:1,with more males than females.The average annual mortality rate for males was3.16%higher than the average annual mortality rate for females at 2.31%,with a statistically significant difference(χ~2=6.04,P<0.05).The mean age at death was significantly higher in females than in males(P<0.05).2.The top five causes of death among the elderly in the Yaoshan community were cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases(35.3%),malignant tumors(29.8%),respiratory diseases(13.2%),endocrine and metabolic diseases(5.8%),and neurological diseases(5.4%).Among them,lung cancer was the first cause of cancer deaths(23.7%),and digestive system tumors accounted for 55.48%of cancer deaths.3.The main places of death of elderly people in the Yaoshan community were in health care institutions(59.30%),at home(36.43%),and in nursing homes(2.32%).Comparing the general conditions of the three main places of death,there were significant differences between the three groups in terms of gender,age,marital status,and occupation(P<0.05),and insignificant differences in terms of season,education level,and cause of death(P>0.05)compared with those who died at home.There was a significant difference between the three groups on the highest diagnostic hospital and the highest diagnostic basis when compared to older adults who died in nursing homes(P<0.05).Conclusion:1.The elderly are the main group of death in the Yaoshan community.The mortality rate of women is lower than that of men,the average age of death of women is higher than that of men,and there is a significant difference,and more men die than women,so we should pay attention to the health care of the elderly,especially men.2.Cardiovascular diseases,malignant tumors,and respiratory diseases are the main causes of death in the Yaoshan community,with lung cancer being the leading cause of cancer death,and good screening and intervention for related diseases.3.The main place of death for older adults in the Yaoshan community was in health care facilities,where gender,age,marital status,and occupation all significantly influenced the choice of place of death for older adults.
