Objective: To sort out the origin and development of gender differences in face color diagnosis and pulse diagnosis, and summarize the characteristics of evolution;the causes of gender differences in this diagnosis were analyzed from the aspects of TCM theory, social culture and philosophical connotation. To explore the value of its theory, deeply understand its cultural and medical attributes, and uncover its limitations. Methods: Taking the “General Catalogue of Ancient Chinese Medicine Books” published in 2007 as the outline, and the ancient books of diagnostic methods written before 1911 as the catalogue, excluding the ancient books that have been lost or cannot be collected, more than 100 ancient books of diagnostic methods were searched, and the relevant literature contents of gender differences in face color diagnosis and pulse diagnosis were screened out.At the same time, the “Chinese Medical Code” software,China National Knowledge Infrastructure,Duxiu and other electronic resource platforms were used as secondary clues to retrieve relevant literature on gender differences in traditional Chinese medicine as auxiliary materials for this study.By using the traditional literature research method, longitudinal research method, history, philosophy and other multidisciplinary research methods and theories, the literature content is sorted out, studied and analyzed. Results: In ancient medical books, the gender differences of facial color diagnosis include two parts: the left and right differences of facial color and the main disease differences of facial king. The gender difference of pulse diagnosis includes three aspects: the difference of pulse gas ups and downs, the difference of pulse diagnosis parts, and the difference of pulse main diseases. The evolution of the gender difference theory of complexion diagnosis and pulse diagnosis is mostly concentrated in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, either inherited, innovated,or gradually declined due to less clinical application.Tracing back to the source,it is found that the causes of gender differences in this diagnosis method are mainly related to social and cultural background, philosophical connotation of yin and yang, and traditional Chinese medicine’ s understanding of male and female physiology and pathology. The gender difference theory of complexion diagnosis and pulse diagnosis has certain value and has been deepened in the consciousness of yin and yang.It strengthens the connection between men and women and essence,qi and blood, viscera and meridians;pay attention to the differences between men and women, guide the treatment of differentiation. Conclusion: The gender differences in facial color diagnosis and pulse diagnosis include medical attributes and cultural attributes.Discussing from its medical attributes is helpful to grasp the differences in the partial victory and decline of yin, yang,qi and blood between men and women, and the tendency of disease syndromes,so as to make disease differentiation, syndrome differentiation and treatment more accurate. From the perspective of cultural attributes, some contents are controversial and lack of objective and practical textual research. Therefore,it is necessary to hold a dialectical attitude, analyze the cultural background and characteristics of the times behind the theory of traditional Chinese medicine, and grasp the internal image in the abstract concept.
