Research BackgroundDepression is a common psychiatric disorder that is characterized by persistent depressed mood, loss of interest, decreased motivation, and social fear.Depression has a high prevalence and recurrence rate, and is prone to trigger or aggravate other somatic disorders, causing great damage to both human health and property.Western psychology believes that a sense of security is an important factor in maintaining mental health, while Chinese medicine believes that "the 11 organs depend on the gall bladder",affirming the importance of the gall bladder to physical and mental health.Chinese psychology believes that individuals are influenced by many factors during their growth process, and the lack of bile can affect personality development and become the pathogenesis of depression, which also provides ideas for clinical treatment. Therefore, this study is based on the TCM psychological theory of bile and the analysis of data from psychological scales, which is expected to provide reference for the clinical treatment of depression.1 PurposeInvestigate the psychological meaning of "bile qi" in Chinese medicine, explore the factors influencing bile qi,the differences in the development levels of bile qi and other personality elements between depressed and normal people, preliminarily verify the role of bile qi in maintaining psychological homeostasis and improving personality development, the relationship between bile qi and depression, and provide examples of the therapeutic effects of Chinese psychological TIP therapy in treating depression from the perspective of bile.2 Research Content and Methodology2.1 Theoretical studyBy searching and analyzing the relevant literature,we outlined the psychological meaning of bile qi in Chinese medicine, analyzed the influencing factors of bile qi and its impact on individual personality development, and explored the relationship between bile qi and depression.2.2 Clinical scale studyIn this study,Wang’s Memory-tracing Personality Inventory(WMPI)was used as the instrument, and 602 cases of clinically diagnosed depressed patients by psychiatrists and normal individuals were used as the study subjects.602 cases of valid data were collected to analyze the correlation between the bile qi subscale and other subscales and the total score of the scale in WMPI,the influence of parenting style on bile qi,the differences of bile qi and other personality elements and dimensions of the bile qi subscale between depressed and normal individuals, and to verify the importance of bile qi.Data were created and statistically analyzed using genuine SPSS 26.0.Statistical methods included descriptive statistics,Spearman’s test, linear regression, independent samples t-test,and chi-square test.2.3 Case-studyThe study case was a depressed patient with timid personality tendency from the included valid data, who was treated with TIP for 3 months, and assessed her WMPI,WPTI,MMPI,SDS and SAS scale before and after treatment to form her own before and after contrast to verify the efficacy.3 Results3.1 Theoretical studyBile qi,as a combination of courage, determination, and action,is a core element of personality development.Improper protection can cause the lack of boldness during the growth process, which in turn affects the stage of defiance, and bile qi is closely related to other internal personality elements and develops into abnormal psychology, personality and psychological disorders under the influence of each other,i.e.,the lack of bile qi may be one of the pathogenesis of depression.3.2 Scale study(1)Correlation analysis between the total WMPI score and each subscale:life events, parenting style, thinking style, willpower, interpersonal relationships, sexuality, worldview, bile qi,and self subscales are all correlated with the total WMPI score(p<0.001),with correlation coefficients of 0.664,0.745,0.773,0.620,0.792,0.547,0.706,0.837,and 0.825 respectively, with the the highest is 0.837 for bile qi,followed by 0.825 for self.(2)Correlations analysis of the bile qi subscale with the total score of WMPI an d the total score of other subscales:there are significant correlations(p<0.001)between the bile qi subscale and the total score of WMPI and other subscales, with the highest correlation coefficient of 0.825 with the total score of WMPI,fo llowed by 0.768 for interpersonal relationships. The correlation coefficients for life events, parenting style, thinking style, willpower, self, sexuality, and worldview classification tables are 0.382,0.463,0.651,0.561,0.714,0.550 and 0.639,respectively.(3)Multiple linear regression analysis of each dimension of parenting style on bile qi:overinterference, coddling, and neglecting protection have positive predictive effects on bile qi(p<0.001),with regression coefficients of 0.342,0.197,and 0.247,respectively,The higher the over-interference,coddling,and neglect protection score, the higher the bile qi score and the lower the bile qi level. And punishment, harshness, and contradictory education were excluded from the equation.(4)The difference test between depression and normal people’s bile qi subscale and each dimension of interpersonal fears, natural fears, adaptability, inexplicable fears:the total bile score and each dimension score of depression and normal people are statistically different(p<0.05),and the mean of each score of depression is higher than that of normal people.(5)Test for differences between depression and normal individuals on other internal factor subscales of thinking style, willpower, self, interpersonal relationships, sexuality, and worldview:there are statistical differences(P<0.05)between depression and normal individuals on all internal factor subscales(except for thinking styles adolescence and youth, sexuality youth, and worldview youth),and the mean values of all scores are higher in depression than in normal individuals.3.3 Case-studyPatients underwent TIP therapy with a focus on elevated bile qi,and MMPI,WMPI,SAS,and SDS scores were all lower than before treatment, and WPTI improved. The pathogenesis of bile qi deficiency on causing depression and the psychological and ability manifestations of bile deficiency are demonstrated, and the clinical efficacy of TIP in treating depression from bile theory is preliminarily confirmed.4 Conclusion4.1 Chinese psychological theory expands and complements the meaning of bile qi,which is considered to be a combination of courage and timidity, determination, and action power.More importantly, the rich understanding of bile qi provides guidance for clinical treatment.4.2 The analytical study of the WMPI scale confirmed the effects of over-intrusive,coddling,and neglectful protective parenting styles on bile qi the differences in the development of bile qi between depressed and normal individuals, and that bile qi is the factor most closely associated with individual personality development, verifying that the lack of growing bile qi may be the core pathological mechanism of depression.4.3 The clinical efficacy of TIP in treating depression from bile qi theory was initially confirmed, and a treatment specification was formed.
