The Yellow Emperor’s Inner Classic(Huang Di Nei Jing),hereinafter referred to as Neijing,is one of the four classics of traditional Chinese medicine and is respected as the ancestor of Physicians. Many physicians in the past dynasties believed that the traditional Chinese medicine theory of depression originated from the "Neijing".Based on the "Neijing",this article analyzes and summarizes the contents of the "Neijing" with the word "Yu",the key word of depression in Chinese, and deeply discusses the "Yu" in the "Neijing".The concept of depression, the relationship between modern depression and the "Nei Jing" and its diagnosis and treatment. The article is divided into three parts.First of all,the "Yu" in the "Nei Jing" is different from today’s.Starting from the original meaning of the word "Yu",it is found that "Yu" is originally used to describe the qi of heaven and earth, objects and spiritual emotions.By arranging and summarizing the chapters and sentences including "Yu" in the "Nei Jing",it is found that "Yu" in "Nei Jing" is only distributed in "the seven major treatises",the last chapters of "Su Wen" and "Sheng Qi Tongtian Lun".Among them, there are more descriptions of stagnant weather, fewer descriptions of diseases, and no emotion is involved.Depression is not the original name of the disease in the "Nei Jing",it should be the later medical practitioners seeking the "Nei Jing" according to their clinical observations, and using the natural way to explain the abnormal situation of the human body and mind,in order to seek its cure.Second, depression can be related to mania in the "Neijing".Through sorting out the source of depression and seeking the definition of depression in the "Nei Jing" in modern times, related diseases are scattered in many chapters and diseases.Comparing the difference between ancient and modern diseases, traced back to the prototype of depression and found that it is quite similar to the early onset of madness in the Classic of Internal Medicine. The ancient mania was different from today, including the initial symptoms of emotional abnormalities to the extreme cases of mental abnormalities.Specifically,it includes depression, mania and epilepsy in modern Chinese medicine. The main difference between epilepsy and the other two is whether the EEG is abnormal;the main difference between mania and depression is whether the mind is conscious or not.In general, depression can be related to madness in the Neijing,it can be refer to during treatment.Third, depression can be treated from the perspective of yin and yang.Depression is caused by the stagnation of negative emotions, and the main symptom is the decrease or enhancement of volitional behavior. Its connotation is quite extensive and there are many influencing factors. The stagnation of negative emotions is related to changes in the environment, the rise and fall of the organs, and the effects of physical and chemical factors. Its influence is many and involves a wide range, and it is often difficult to complete it in clinical treatment. Therefore, try to use yin and yang as the basis for the diagnosis and treatment to guide its outline, and combine the mood disorders(depressive disorder, manic disorder, bipolar disorder)in modern medicine, etc.,horizontally compare the discussion of emotional disorders in China and foreign countries, and further demonstrate that depression starts from yin and yang.Dialectical treatment plan.In order to improve the theory of depression and provide a theoretical basis for clinical diagnosis and treatment.
