In order to study the impact of tourism activities on vegetation and soil in the Hilamuren Desert Grassland Functional Area, different functional areas with consistent soil parent materials and geological landforms, namely the Mongolian yurt area, plank road area, and natural grassland, were selected as the research objects.Through field sampling and indoor physicochemical experiments, the vegetation characteristics and changes in soil properties in different functional areas were studied. The results are as follows:(1)A field investigation of each functional area revealed that there are a total of 19 families and 33 species of plants in the study area, including 7 species of gramineae plants,6 species of compositae plants, and 3 species of leguminous plants, accounting for 51.52%of the total number of plants. The order of vegetation richness index, diversity index, and evenness index in different tourism functional areas of desert grasslands is: natural grassland>plank road area>yurt area; The order of vegetation dominance index is: yurt area>plank road area>natural grassland.(2)The order of soil compaction in each tourism functional area is: Mongolian yurt area>plank road area>natural grassland area. The closer the soil compaction in the Mongolian yurt area is to the Mongolian yurt, the higher the soil compaction. The soil particle size composition of each tourism functional area is mainly composed of silt and sand particles.Compared with natural grasslands, the stacking areas and yurt areas with higher levels of human trampling have poorer sorting ability, coarsening of particles, extremely positive skewness, and smoother peaks; The frequency curve of soil particle size distribution and the cumulative frequency curve of soil particle size show that the soil particle size distribution is wide in the trestle road area and yurt area.(3)Tourism activities have a significant impact on the nutrient content of soil surface layer. The order of soil organic matter content, soil alkaline nitrogen content, soil available potassium content, and soil available phosphorus content is: natural grassland>plank road area>Mongolian yurt area. The soil organic matter content increases as the distance from the stack road increases within 5-10 meters; The further away the soil alkali hydrolyzed nitrogen content and soil available phosphorus content are from the stack road, their content basically shows a gradually increasing trend.(4)The soil compactness in the treeway area was positively correlated with soil alkali-hydrolytic nitrogen content and sorting coefficient, and negatively correlated with peak state. The soil compactiity in yurt area has a significant negative correlation with clay and fine sand, and a significant positive correlation with coarse sand and very coarse sand.
