Chlamydia psittaci(CPS)has been confirmed to be widespread among pet cats.Nowadays,as a very beloved pet, cats are closely related to human life.Chlamydia psittaci is an important pathogen that causes conjunctivitis and pneumonia in cats.It can persist and excrete pathogenic bacteria in the host body for a long time.It is usually a potential infection without showing any clinical symptoms, and can also infect humans. It is now listed as a Class II zoonotic disease by the World Health Organization(WHO).Common symptoms caused by Chlamydia psittaci infection include sudden fever, headache, myalgia, cough, and difficulty breathing. As the disease progresses, complications such as pericarditis, endocarditis,or myocarditis may occur and cause swelling of the liver or spleen.Currently,Chlamydia psittaci still exists widely, which is not only a major factor causing economic losses in the aquaculture industry, but also poses a significant safety hazard to human and animal health as a zoonotic pathogen. However,at present, the presence of Chlamydia psittaci in China has not been taken seriously. Therefore, this experiment is mainly to use the established PCR detection technology to investigate the pathogen of Chlamydia psittaci infection in cats in Changchun City,Jilin Province. In this experiment,a total of 286 cotton swab samples from the cat’s eyes, nose, and throat were collected, and a total of 53 samples with positive PCR results were detected. The infection rate of Chlamydia psittaci was 18.53%.Analyzing the collected data by gender, age, breed, weight, sampling season, and sterilization status,it was found that 29.51%(36/122)of male cats,20.31%(39/192)of 0-1 year old cats,34%(17/50)of beaver cats,20.77%(38/183)of 0-1 kg weight cats,34%(17/34)of spring cats, and 20.47%(52/254)of unsterilized cats had higher positive rates of Chlamydia psittaci nucleic acid. The above research results provide pathogenic data for Chlamydia psittaci infection in Changchun area and provide evidence for effective prevention and control of Chlamydia psittaci infection in cats.
