In recent years, with the fundamental victory in the battle against poverty in China, the focus of policy formulation has gradually shifted from how to promote the income of specific groups to how to consolidate the results of poverty eradication and improve the overall quality of life.Fishermen,,as the main body of fishery production activities, currently have a generally low quality of life. However, the current academic community has paid limited attention to fishermen’s quality of life, and a comprehensive understanding of fishermen’s quality of life and analysis of the factors affecting fishermen’s quality of life has become an urgent problem to be solved. This paper explores the current quality of life of fishermen in Zhoushan City,Zhejiang Province, and the factors affecting the quality of life of fishermen, with the aim of providing a reference for improving the quality of life of fishermen in Zhoushan City and other areas in Zhejiang Province.Based on 400 samples of fishermen in Zhoushan City, this paper constructs a fishermen’s quality of life scale and combines multiple linear regression models to objectively analyze the specific factors that affect fishermen’s quality of life. The main findings of this paper show that(1)the overall quality of life of fishermen in Zhoushan City is average and there is more room for improvement.44.25% of the fishermen interviewed have an "average" attitude towards their current quality of life, while 6and 14 fishermen have a "very low" and "low" quality of life respectively."The quality of life has more room for improvement.(2)Further subdividing the quality of life into physiological domain, psychological domain, social relationship domain and environmental domain, the results show that the performance of low quality of life varies in each domain. From the physiological domain,80.75% of fishermen lacked sufficient sleep and rest, which may limit the quality of fishermen. While in the psychological domain,72.25% of the fishermen interviewed believe that fishermen lack social respect as a profession, which hinders the identity satisfaction of fishermen and thus further negatively affects the quality of life of fishermen. In the social relations domain,90.5% of the fishermen believe that the local welfare policy is not perfect, which may limit the quality of life of the current fishermen. Finally,in the environmental domain, nearly 69.25% of fishermen believe that the local health care level and social security system are inadequate.(3)The regression results of the multivariate linear model indicate that human capital, economic status and social security situation all significantly affect fishermen’s quality of life, and that significant improvement in fishermen’s quality of life occurs with the improvement of their physical health, level of professional skills in fishing, income, savings, and participation in employment training, pension insurance and medical insurance. Finally, this paper proposes several policy recommendations for improving fishermen’s quality of life:(1)Promote fishermen’s income growth and strengthen their economic foundation.(2)Promote fishery employment training and enhance fishermen’s employment skills.(3)Improve the social security system to alleviate fishermen’s worries.(4)Strengthen the psychological guidance of fishermen and pay attention to their psychological health. |
