With the increasing of China’s ageing population and changing fertility policies, community research on the needs of age groups at home and abroad has shifted from focusing on age-friendly communities and child-friendly communities to communities for all age. After the 19 th National Congress,China’s main social contradictions have changed and urban construction has become more focused on quality improvement,so improving the quality of public space in old communities has gradually become an important issue in the field of community renewal research, and all-age friendly shared public space can actively respond to the ardent expectation of all-age residents for a better life in the new era. This paper takes the perspective of all-age communities as the starting point, and explores the public space renewal strategies of unitary older communities based on the spatial and temporal characteristics and activity needs of different age groups in Yard 2 and Liyuan West communities,in an attempt to promote the quality improvement of unitary older communities in Nanchang, build intergenerational integrated public spaces and create a harmonious and happy community atmosphere.Firstly, starting from theoretical research, this paper provide the theoretical foundation research for this thesis by combing community renewal, community public space,all-age community research dynamics, theories of people-environment matching,Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and public participation.Secondly, through online research and on the basis of sampling and screening,a field survey was conducted in ten unitary older communities in Nanchang, and a typical community in each of the densely populated unitary older communities in Nanchang, namely,Donghu District,Qingyunpu District,Xihu District and Qingshanhu District, was selected for in-depth research to summarize the current characteristics of public space in unitary older communities in Nanchang. In the empirical analysis, the authors divided the residents into five age groups according to the relevant literature.Through re-screening,two older communities with a richer age structure were selected to conduct field observations, questionnaires and interviews with people to investigate the basic conditions of each public space and the activities of people in the community, and use software such as SPSS and Arc GIS to analyze the spatio-temporal behavioural characteristics and the activity needs of each age group in the community. The analysis was carried out using SPSS and Arc GIS software and the contradictions between existing public spaces and the need for all-age regeneration was Summarised. Then, from the four aspects of spatial layout, square and park space, street space and inter-residential space, the all-age renewal strategy of public space in unitary older communities was proposed in Nanchang. Finally, taking the Liyuan West community as an example, the design and guidance for the renewal of the community square and park space, street space and inter-residential space is provided as a response to the all-age renewal strategy of the public space in the unitary older community in Nanchang, with a view to providing a reference for the renewal of the public space in the unitary older community in Nanchang or similar areas.
